"Millie J. Smallwood, 72, of Carswell Hollow, Kimball, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, surrounded by her loving family."Millie was born on January 18, 1954, in Havaco, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Charlie and Sarah Hicks Cleary.
"Millie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose world revolved around her grandchildren and beloved dogs. She was well known for her famous potato salad and macaroni and cheese. She also loved gardening, planting flowers, and spending time sitting in the sunshine.
"In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Tina Louise Burkes; her siblings, James Cleary, Charles Cleary, Lola Slusher, and Sara Benach; and her sweet puppies, Annabelle and Tinkerbelle.
"Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband, Milton Smallwood; her children, John Morgan Burks, Milton Ray Smallwood Jr., and Hannah Rae Smallwood; her daughters-in-law, Melissa Burks and Santanna Dotson; her adopted daughter, Julie Christian; her grandchildren, Brandon Tyler Burks, Brayden Kyler Smallwood, and Blake Charles Smallwood; her great-granddaughter, Everleigh Alayna Burks; her sisters, Ann Mitchem, Texie Church, and Lois Epperly; her special friend, Faye Christian; her beloved dogs, Sassy, Bella, Sadie, and Trouble; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
"Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Welch, with Elder Fred Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

"Halsey Roberts Jr. of Hamptonville, NC formerly of McDowell Co WV died peacefully on July 1, 2026, in the arms of his wife of 51 yrs and surrounded by his family. He was a coal miner and enjoyed his game chickens. He was an avid hunter and trout fisherman. He loved his family fiercely."Halsey was born December 1, 1954 in Iaeger, WV a son of the late Halsey Roberts Sr. and Anna Marie Crouse Roberts. Halsey was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to many and a father figure and friend to countless others. The only thing that surpassed his love for his family (by blood or otherwise) was the love and respect they all had for him. There will never be another, he will truly be missed.
"In addition to his parents, Halsey was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Roberts.
"His legacy lives on in his wife, Alice of the home; daughter, Angie Mattingly (Jimmy) of Troutman, NC; son, Jessie Roberts (April) of Statesville NC; grandsons, Bo Mattingly of Troutman, Halston Mattingly (Alyssa) of Glendale, AZ, Daniel Long (CeaCea) of Lewisville, NC and Brendan Blankenship of Statesville, NC; great grandson, Avery Long and great granddaughter, Adalyn Long. Halsey was also survived by seven sisters, Betty Tucker, Barbara Maxwell, Kathy Hamilton, Pam Bumgardner, Carmellia Roberts, Carla Terry, and Brenda Waggoner; one brother, Jackie Roberts. Several brothers and sisters in law along with numerous nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 1 o’clock with Reverend Leroy Blankenship and Reverend Leonard Mullins officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in the Roberts Cemetery on Cub Creek near Panther. Halsey will be carried to his final resting place by Zack Roberts, Coltin Rowe, Dylan Roberts, Eli Terry, Donovan Poore, and Robert Hughes.
