"Alice Faye Rhodes, 85, of Welch, WV was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, and is now resting in the Lord's embrace. Alice passed away at Princeton Healthcare Center with her family by her side, after a courageous battle with several illnesses. Alice was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, and she will be remembered for her kind heart, her strength, and her unwavering love for her family and God."Alice was born in Welch, WV on September 14, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Clara Barton-Harrison and Nute Clemons. She spent much of her life in Davy, WV, where she made a home and raised her only child and light of her life, Jennifer Lane (Rhodes). Alice was a dedicated member of Twin Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church most of her life and attended Bethel Assembly of God in Vivian, WV. Alice was known for her deep love of family, her faith in God, and her dedication to those she cared about. She and her husband, Norris “Peewee” Rhodes, owned and operated Welch Cleaners for many years, where they built a community of loyal customers and made countless lifelong friends. Their hard work and kindness created a lasting legacy that touched many in the area.
"Alice was also known for her cooking, especially her fried chicken—crispy, golden, and always just right—which was a favorite in the family. It’s something everyone will miss, along with her warm smile and the love she showed so easily.
"She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris “Peewee” Rhodes; her sisters, Ethel Pederson, Bertha Franklin, Mildred "Puchie" Clemons, and Ester Bishop; and her brothers, Larry Harrison and Markel "Buck" Harrison. She is now reunited with all her loved ones who have gone before her.
"Alice is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lane, and son-in-law Brad, of Welch, WV; her grandchildren, Brad Lane Jr. of Roanoke, VA, Jason Lane (Candace) of Iaeger, WV, and Cassandra Brown (Chilly) of Welch, WV; eight great-grandchildren (Matthew, Kolton, Kaliyah, Trenton, River, Benjamin, Collins, and Kristian) and one special great, great granddaughter(Kehlani May), who were all very special to her and brought her much joy; and many special nieces and nephews, but one very dedicated niece, Mary Sue White England, who never failed to be by her side. She is also survived by three very special friends who were more like family to her, Julia Whittaker, Sue Dunmire, and Charlene Kirk. Her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family, who she cherished above all.
"A celebration of Alice's life will be held at Fanning Funeral Home in Welch, West Virginia, on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Friends and family may call from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. for family, with services for friends at 12:00 p.m. Pastors Angie Gillespie and Michael Brooks Jr. will officiate. Pallbearers will be a host of family and friends. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia.
