"DAVY — Darrell Franklin Muncy, 52, of Davy, W.Va., passed away Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va."Darrell was born September 4, 1955 in Welch, W.Va., a son of Violet G. Asbury Muncy and the late James T. Muncy Jr. He graduated from Iaeger High School in 1974 where he made all state in Football, playing Nose Guard. He and his team took the IHS Cubs to the Kiwanis Bowl in 1974. He received a scholarship to Bluefield State College where he earned a B.S. Degree and an A. S. Degree in Law Enforcement. He also received a Masters Degree in Special Education at the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. Darrell was a Correctional Officer at the McDowell County Jail from 1983 to 1985, and taught in the McDowell County School System until 1994 when he became disabled. He was a member of the Iaeger Lions Club, Two Rivers Conservation Club, the N.R.A., the WV Teachers Retirement, the WV Education Association, and Alumni of Bluefield State College. Darrell was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also had gift for music and was a talented guitar player and song writer. He was a true fan of Southern Rock, the Blues, and Gospel. He also joined his father on the Molly Tynes Ride in Tazewell, Va., for many years.
"In addition to his father, James Muncy, Jr.; two sisters, Sherry Roberts and Bobbi Smith; a nephew, Oliver "June Bug" Stanley, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Jackie Parks preceded him in death.

Elijah Jake Muncy both of the home; his mother, Violet Muncy of Avondale, W.Va.; one brother, William Muncy and wife Ruthie of Avondale, W.Va.; five sisters, Pearl Parson and husband Fred of Conowingo, Md., Velva Franklin of Beckley, W.Va., Julia Masi and husband Fred of Mebane, N.C., Mary Bailey and husband Otto of Arlington, Va., Dian Addair and husband Luther of Church Hill, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Parks of Davy, W.V.; two brothers- in-law, Ronald Parks and wife Jenny of Davy, W.Va., Ricky Parks of Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews; and three very close friends, Jimmy Puckett and wife Betty of Marion, Va., Steve Burton of Raysal, W.Va., and Jacky Akers and LeeAnne Roberts and daughter Hannah Akers of Davy, W.Va.

He was one of 14 children and was the last surviving sibling of his 13 brothers and sisters.
"Ben proudly served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. While stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, he fell in love with the beauty of the Pacific Northwest and made the decision to call Washington home—a choice that shaped the rest of his life.
"Ben built a long and respected career in the logging industry. He worked as a hook tender and crew leader for many years with Weyerhaeuser Company and other logging companies throughout the region. He was known as a hardworking, dependable man and was highly regarded as a valued employee and leader.
"Ben married Jacqueline D. Hope, and together they raised five children: Martha-Dennise Allen; Henry T. Bennett, known as “T” (deceased); Lynn Falls; Benjamin H. Bennett Jr., known as “Dude”; and Mona Dover. He was blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ben was immensely proud of the lives his children built and the people they became.
"In 1969, Linda Nichols became Ben’s devoted domestic partner, sharing his life for many decades. Along with Linda came her two sons, Bruce and Kevin, whom Ben treated as his own. Bruce later married Michelle and had four children—Devin, Nicholas, Seth, and Marissa. Marissa blessed Ben with two great-grandchildren whom he adored deeply. Ben and Linda shared a life filled with the things they loved most: fishing in Westport, hunting, and tending their garden together.
"Above all, Ben was a loving father, partner, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He valued family, hard work, and the outdoors. He will be remembered for his strength, dedication, and the unwavering devotion he showed to those closest to him.
