Francis Gail Lusk

"Francis Gail Powers, 70, of Cyclone, WV passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the Rocking Chair Residential Care Facility of Lerona, WV. She was born on September 26, 1955 a daughter of the late French and Oma Perry Lusk Workman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. At the age of 16, Francis married the love of her life, Stanley. She became a mother and homemaker for several years before she decided to pursue a degree in teaching. She went on to graduate from Southern West Virginia Community and Technica College where she obtained her Masters Degree in Reading and a Reading Specialist Certification, K-Adult. She then went on to obtain several more certifications in specialized areas. After graduating, she went on to teaching and taught for 19 years for the Wyoming County Board of Education. Francis loved her job and loved and believed in every student that came through her door. She loved spending time with her family, going on trips, and shopping with her daughter Shontel. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 54 years, Stanley Elmer Powers, three sons Stanley S. Powers of Cyclone, Brian (Phyllis) Powers of Coal City, and John Powers of Cyclone, a daughter Shontel (Jacob) Powers-White of Indian Creek, brother Robert Watson Lusk of Falls Church, VA, three grandsons Michael Powers and his fiancé Jaydn Forren, Chris Bell and fiancé Jade and Corey Powers, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 6 pm on Monday, December 22nd in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 5 pm until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. In keeping wishes she will be cremated following the service. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. "

She was born on February 3, 1959 in Welch, WV a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Carter and Mary Ruth Bowens Carter Stewart. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister Sandra McMillion, two brothers Ross Q. Carter, and Grover Carter, Jr., a granddaughter Taylor, and brothers-in-law Steve Martin and Douglas Walker, Jr. Survivors include a daughter Rebecca Ruth (Robert) Walker, grandchildren Jeffery, Jesse, Sid and Charlie, sisters Ida Kay McMillion, Francine (Denver L.) Madden, Donna Mae Martin, and Ruth Ann Walker, a sister-in-law Betty Carter, and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. In keeping with her wishes she will be cremated. He was born on March 5, 1972 in Beckley, WV a son of Richard Dixon of Oceana and Judy Lynn Brooks Curry of Man. He is preceded in death by paternal grandparents Lawrence and Edith Dixon and Maternal grandparents Carlis and Ecile Brooks, an aunt Betty Metten, uncles Dale Dixon, Bill Brooks, and Dick Brooks.
