"Mervin Clayton Cook, 75, of Keyrock, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on September 27th, 2025. Mervin, affectionately known by friends and family as “Binky”, was born on March 23, 1950, to Elva Clayton Cook and Erma Cook. He grew up with his brother George and his sisters Kathy, Martha, and Johni. After serving as a corpsman in the United States Navy, and then studying psychology at Marshall University, Mervin returned home and built a life rooted in both service and community. He worked as a coal miner, later served as the city clerk of Mullens, and went on to become the chief tax deputy of Wyoming County. Eventually, he and his wife, Pam, owned Valley Air Heating and Cooling, which they ran side by side for many years. But Mervin’s greatest devotion was to his faith and his family. For more than 41 years, he faithfully served Pineville Southern Baptist Church as a deacon and as the teacher of the adult Sunday school class, sharing God’s Word and guiding others in their walk with Christ. At home, Mervin was a loving husband, dad, and papaw. He is reunited in heaven with his parents and his brother, George Cook. Mervin will be remembered for his steady faith and his gentle spirit. His family, friends, and church family will deeply miss his wisdom, laughter, and love—but we take comfort in knowing he is now at peace with the Lord he served so faithfully. He leaves behind his wife and love of 49 years, Pamela Jayne Cook his children, Michael Ann White (Shannon), Ashley Gayle Lusk (Jamie), and Andrew Clayton Cook and his grandchildren, Alec Lusk, Nate White, Kayleigh White, Katie Dulcie, and Lincoln Lusk—who were his pride and joy. His memory is also carried on by his sisters Kathy Houchins, Martha Bowling, and Johni Cook. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, October 2nd at the Pineville Southern Baptist Church, with Bradley McKinney and Dwight Stafford officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Solid Cook Chapel Cemetery, Rock, View, WV. Family and friends are invited to gather with us for visitation at 12pm to honor and celebrate his life. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV."
