"Following a period of intense suffering, from an ailment that would not respond to medical treatment, Mrs J Patton Barrett, wife of the well known Tazewell man, who has spent a quarter of a century in the postal service as carrier on a route from Tazewell, died at her home Tuesday night, December 27th. Her death had been expected for several days. The deceased was a daughter of the late John E Fox, who was a resident of Thompson Valley for a number of years.
"Mrs Barrett was 58 years of age, having been born January 3, 1875.
"She is survived by her husband, one sister, Mrs T H Ascue, of Belfontaine, Ohio; one brother, J V Fox, of Richlands, and these children: Mrs C K Hall, Tazewell; Mrs L G Blevins and Mrs J M Reed, Gary; Mrs Martha Maynard, Tazewell; and Bowen Barrett, of Tazewell.
"Funeral services were held at 11 o'clock Thursday, in the Pleasant Hill church in Thompson Valley...."
