"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Patricia “Patsy” McGuire; his brother, Roger McGuire; and his brother-in-law, Romie Coe. In his early years, Gary worked as a coal miner. He carried a deep pride in his roots and spent his life surrounded by the people and places he loved. He found joy in fishing, four-wheeling, sitting on his front porch enjoying the outdoors, and sharing his fun-loving, youthful spirit with those around him. He will be remembered for his humor, his love of music, and his willingness to help others whenever he could. Gary is survived by his daughter, Amber McGuire and husband Todd Ploetner of Durham, NC; his sister Joyce Coe of Bluewell, WV; his sister-in-law, Kathy McGuire of Mount Holly, NC; his brothers Randall McGuire and wife Melissa of Newton, NC, Roy McGuire of Panther, WV, David McGuire and wife Robin of Lincolnton, NC; and his sister Melissa Justice and Ronnie Mounts of Gilbert, WV. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

"Gary was especially blessed with the devoted friendship of Herbert Steele and his wife, Twila, who stood faithfully by his side and whose care and companionship brought Gary strength and comfort as he endured cancer with remarkable courage and perseverance. He also shared a special bond with their grandson, Trey, who lovingly called him “Uncle Goo” and played with him like a best friend, as well as with their dog, Little Man, his faithful four-wheeling buddy.

"A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Panther Missionary Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Vance Cemetery in Trap Fork, near Panther Wv. Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger is assisting the family."
