"NORFOLK - Allen R. Barrett, 70, of 2120 E. Indian River Road, a native of Matewan W. Va., who lived in Tidewater 19 years, died Sunday in a hospital. He was the husband of Mrs. Thelma Billiter Barrett."He was a retired coal miner.
"Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ptty Sue Kirby of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Mrs. Penny Anne Gieg of Norfolk; two sons, Donald Ray Barrett of Columbus, Ohio, and Darrell Barrett of Hampton; five sisters, Mrs. Hazel Griggs, Mrs. Margaret Michalski, and Miss Betty Barrett of Norfolk, and Mrs. Myrtle Farley and Mrs. Alberita Schocley of Lenexa; a brother, Glen Barrett of Sebring, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
"A funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Henry Johnson. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will be at funeral home tonight from 7 to 8.

"Patty Sue Barrett Kirby, 79 of Rhodell, WV, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at her home. She was born on May 5, 1946 in Williamson, WV a daughter of the late Allen Russel and Thelma Billiter Barrett. Patty was the last member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles Clarence Kirby, a son Stephen Lee Kirby, two brothers Donald Barrett and Darrell Barrett, a sister Penny Kauffman. Survivors include two daughters Patricia Kirby Campbell and husband Edward P. and Katherine Kirby Perkins and husband Matthew Ray, eight grandchildren Rebecca, Charlie, Alex, Brandon, Jessyca, Samantha, Philip (Kelsey), and Lauren, five great grandchildren Kayden, Aria, Paitlyn, Joey and Mayzie, and a host of other loving family and friends. Graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, July 23rd at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA . The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV. "

"Charles H. “Ozz” Osborne, 62, of Oceana, WV passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born on December 14, 1962 in Pineville, WV a son of the late Charles M. and Elsie M. Tony Osborne. Charles was a proud Coal Miner and a member of the UMWA. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 38 years, Kathy Hall Osborne, a daughter Heather Mauger and husband Ron, a son Cody Osborne and companion Rosie, two grandchildren Chelsea L Goode and Ian Trevor Pennington, three brothers James Osborne and wife Anne of Hendersonville, TN, Chester Osborne and wife Phyllis of Kopperston, and John Osborne of Charlotte, NC, a very special sister and brother-in-law Patti and Philip Orrison of Lexington, NC, a group of his close mining buddies, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other loving family and friends.
