"Leonard Franklin “Frank” Cooley, 79 of Welch, WV, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. He was born on August 29, 1945 in Newhall, WV, to the late James Edward Cooley and Gerthie Owens Cooley."Frank dedicated his life to service—both to his country and his community. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and after his military service, he became deeply rooted in civic life. Frank was a devoted member of several organizations, including the American Legion, where he served as Past West Virginia State Commander. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge, Shriner Club, Lions Club, and the Forty and Eight. His leadership and contributions left a lasting impact, as he held multiple levels of leadership. Frank believed in making his community stronger and served it with unmatched heart and dedication.
"In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife Angela "Ann" Cooley; brothers, Earsten Eugene Cooley, Thomas Harry Cooley, David Cooley, James Edward Cooley Jr., Henry Clay, and Andrew.
"Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Leonard Edward Cooley and wife Olivia, and James David Cooley, all of Welch, WV; one beloved granddaughter, Samantha Marie Cooley of Michigan; brothers, Charles Ray Cooley and wife Debbie of Martinsville, VA, and Robert Lee Cooley of Martinsville, VA; sister, Mary Ann Tawney and husband Joey, also of Martinsville, VA; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

"Angela Diane Cooley, 78 of Stewart Street in Welch, WV passed away Saturday June 21, 2025, at McDowell Healthcare Center in Gary, WV following a long illness. Mrs. Colley was born on December 14, 1946, in Twinbranch, WV, the daughter of the late Hatfield and Cula Mae Davidson."Ann loved the lord and attended the First Presbyterian Church on Stewart Street in Welch where she sung in the choir. Ann worked several jobs, Dairy Queen, she worked and volunteered at Stevens Clinic Hospital, she spent 17 years working as a CNA at the Gary Nursing Home. She was always helping others.
