"Sylvester Harper, 86, of Oceana, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2025 at WVU Medicine, Princeton, WV. He was born on April 3, 1938 in Guyan, WV a son of the late Ralph Willard and Gracie Mod Maynor Harper. Sylvester was a member of the Oceana First Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of the UMWA District 17 Local 1503. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two infant brothers Buster and Kenny Harper, a sister Nora Blankenship, mother and father-in-law Erma and Virgil Bowden, and lifelong friends Woodrow and Ruth Cooke. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years Judy Bowden Harper, a daughter Rhonda Thomas and husband Russell of Oceana, a grandson Kirtis Wyatt Thomas and wife Miranda of Galax, VA, two great grandchildren William Jay Thomas and Jemma Grace Thomas both of Galax, VA, lifelong friends Ira Otis and Mari Cooke and their daughter Amanda of Las Cruces, NM, his lifelong friends at McDonalds, and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Tuesday, January 28th at the Oceana First Baptist Church, Oceana, WV with Pastor Jerry Cook Officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 5-7 pm on Monday, January 27th at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Wyoming County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV."

"James Arthur Sellards, 74, of Matheny, WV passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. He was born on January 10, 1951 in Floyd County, KY a son of the late Ben and Goldie Robinson Sellards. James attended many different churches. He loved watching TV, fishing and going to church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Freddy Sellards, three sisters Mary Dunlap, Carolyn Coleman and Sundie Burgess, and infant brother. Survivors include a daughter Maggie (Mark) Tyson of Hanover, a son James Arthur Sellards, Jr. of Hinton, a sister Norma (Gayle) Varney of Lynco, three brothers Randy Sellards and Charlie Sellards both of Matheny and William Sellards of Rifle, CO, two grandchildren Alexis and James Cook, two great grandchildren Wyatt and Waylan, and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 12 pm on Monday, January 27th in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Kenny Wray officiating. He will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 11 am until time of service on Monday at the funeral home. "Clyde Amos “Blue” Ellis, Jr., 69, of Glen Rogers, WV went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 20, 2025. He was born on September 23, 1955 in Mullens, WV a son of the late Clyde Amos Ellis, Sr. and Alice Maye Richardson Ellis. Blue was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister Karen Lee Polk, a brother Daniel Dewight Ellis, and his special sister-in-law Phylis Greco, who lovingly referred to him as her favorite. He was a proud member of the UMWA and Worked as a coal miner for over 20 years, spending time at Long Branch Energy and Ranger Fuel. He was a true “miner man” who took great pride in his work and in the community. He was an avid outdoorsman, Blue loved spending time in the woods as a passionate coon hunter. He enjoyed nothing more than being in nature, surrounded by friends and family. As a proud grandfather, he found immense joy in watching his grandchildren excel in sports and succeed in college and in life. He was a hand-on-man, a jack of all trades who could fix or build anything. Above all, Blue loved Jesus, and his faith was evident in everything he did. He attended the RHEMA Ministries and lived his life in a way that showed his love for God, and he will be remembered for the strength of his character, the kindness he showed other, and his unwavering devotion to his family. Blue leaves behind his devoted wife of 46 years, Shirley Ann Slone Ellis, his daughter Melissa Simerly Davis of Calhoun, GA, his sons, Chris Simerly of Glen Rogers, and Jeremy Ellis and his wife Jessie of Glen Fork, his granddaughter, Lyllian Grace Simerly, his grandsons, Samuel Davis, Elijah Ellis, and Noah Ellis, a son of heart Anthony Helton, three sisters, Kathy (Ronnie) Bower, Melissa Ellis, and Karen (Jay) Waldron, as well as a host of nieces, and nephews who will forever hold him in their hearts. A celebration of Blue’s life will be held at 6 pm on Saturday, January 25th in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Ernest Francis, III, Rev. Jeff Green and Rev. Jonathan Cresong officiating. Friends may gather with the family from 5 pm until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. In keeping with his wishes he will be cremated following the service.
