Born in McDowell County, she was a daughter of Maggie Wagner Horn, Paynesville and the late Luther Horn. She had been a resident of McDowell County most of her life and was of the Protestant faith. She was a graduate of Iaeger High School and Concord College, a retired elementary school teacher with McDowell County School System."Mrs. Ackley was preceded in death by her first husband: Dr. George Cook and is survived by her second husband: William Roger Ackley, Paynesville; three daughters: Sarah Ann Cook of St. Albans, Eugenia and husband: Steve Bukovinski of St. Albans, Rev. Luana and husband: Michael Scott of Huntington; one son: CSM Charles and wife: Mary Cook of Oahu, Hawaii; two sisters: June Brown of Bluefield, Violet and husband Roger Boothe of Casa Grande, Ariz.; four brothers: Huey and wife Dorothy Horn of Pineville, Roger and wife June Horn of Paynesville, Randall Horn of Paynesville, Steve and wife Judy Horn of Iaeger. "WELCH -- Harry I. Neal Jr., 81, of Welch, departed this life on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007, at McDowell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gary."He was born Jan. 8, 1926 in Welch, and was the son of the late Harry I. Neal Sr., and Georgia Johnson Neal. He was a graduate of Kimball High School, attended West Virginia State College and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. Mr. Neal was an active member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Welch where he served as a trustee and devotional leader. He retired after many years of employment at Semet-Solvay Coal Company in Capels where he was a foreman/supervisor and the Director of Safety and First-Aid. Mr. Neal was formerly employed by the McDowell County Board of Education and a member of the McDowell County Chapter of the N.A.A.C.P.
"In addition to his parents, his oldest son, the Reverend Dr. James H. Neal, preceded him in death.
"He will be remembered as a strong believer in education and for the love and support he gave to his family and friends. Mr. Neal leaves many cherished memories to his devoted wife, Hattiestien M. Patterson Neal; one brother, John H. Neal and wife, Mary, of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Christine F. Williams and husband, Ellis Ray, of Welch, and Imogene A. Trapp of Roanoke; his children, Harry I.
