"Gene Bert Johnson, 89, of Amigo, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 in a Beckley hospital."Born February 1, 1929 at Herndon, he was the son of the late Henry and Annis (Norman) Johnson.
"Gene was a member of UMWA with 36 years of service having last worked for Maben Energy and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In his leisure he enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, and was a well-known turkey hunter.
"In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jack Bradford; four brothers, Buster, Paul, Walter, and Bobby Johnson; and four sisters, Idabelle McKinney, Ollie McKinney, Charlotte Graham, and Mary Fizer.
"Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Charlotte Lee Johnson of Amigo; two daughters, Tammy Holdren and husband, Bill of Pax and Missy Bradford of Allen Juntion; two sons, Richard Johnson of Amigo and Mason Scott Johnson and wife, Angie of Mullens; three granddaughters, Sarah Miller and husband, Chad of Camp Creek, Leah Holdren of Raleigh, NC, and Kyndl Johnson of Mullens; and three grandsons, Chandler Johnson of Mullens, Conner Bradford of Allen Junction, and Broc Johnson of Mullens.

He was of the Pentecostal faith and served as Pastor of the Twin Branch Pentecostal Trinity Assembly Church for 34 years. He was the principal of Twin Branch Pentecostal Christian Academy for 31 years.
"He served in the U.S. Army from 1971 through 1974. He was a coal miner and a UMWA representative for U.S. Steel number 50 mines at Pinnacle, WV for 10 years.
