"Waymon McKinney, 76, of Covel, died 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness.

"Born Nov. 5, 1924, at Crumpler, he was the son of the late Rev. Leonard McKinney and Carri Bailey McKinney.

Mr. McKinney was a retired coal mine electrician and a member of the UMWA. He had been a resident of Covel for the past 20 years and was of the Baptist faith.

"He was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Wright.

"Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Shirley "Jean" Lewis McKinney; three sons, Lee Mc-Kinney of Daniels, Rick Steele of Mullens and Rusty Steele of Unicoi, Tenn.; two daughters, Sue Stanley of Orlando, Fla., and Cheryl Stone of Roanoke, Va.; two grandsons, Josh Mc-Kinney of Daniels and Wayne Wright of Roanoke, Va.; two granddaughters, Sally Giggett of Vinton, Va., and Lisa Holder of Augusta, Ga.; a great-grandson, Dustin Holder of Augusta, Ga.; an adopted granddaughter, Sabrina Meadows of Herndon Heights; an adopted great-grandson, Damon Meadows of Herndon Heights; two brothers, Garnet McKinney and Hermon McKinney, both of Princeton; seven sisters, Lois Shrewsbury of Glen Morgan, Beulah Vaughn of Maben, Ruby Bishop of Bud, Greta Bishop of Stephenson, Ellen Donahue of Lashmeet, Martha Graham of North Carolina and June Bailey of Pembroke, Va.; and two stepsisters, Maude Milam of Covel and Louise Nichol of Evanston, Ill.

"A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Guyandotte Ave., Mullens, with the Very Rev. Adeeb M. Khalil officiating.

"The family will receive friends after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established in Waymon McKinney's name for an underprivileged Wyoming East High School senior student entering the field of Mining Electrical Health and Safety.

"Memorial contributions may be sent to Shirley McKinney, Box 59, Covel, WV 24719, and will be established at the People's Bank of Mullens.

"Shirley Jeane McKinney, 82, of Covel, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

"Born July 27, 1936 in Lester, WV, she was the daughter of the late Otho Flint and Anna (Wood) Lewis.

"Ms. McKinney was formerly a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Mullens and was employed at Stratton’s Inc. clothing store in Mullens during earlier years. She was a homemaker afterward, and enjoyed horses, her “varmints”, hunting, and riding thru the mountains in earlier years with her “Babe”. Jeane was a loving and caring person dedicated to her family; always enjoyed cooking and baking wonderful meals and desserts for everyone. She knew no strangers and always had a kind word to say for all she met.

"In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her late husband, Waymon McKinney and former husband, Richard R. “Detroit” Steele, Sr.

"Survivors include a daughter, Debra Green and her husband, John of South Charleston; two sons, Richard Roland “Rick” Steele, Jr. of Mullens, and Russell Kevin “Rusty” Steele formerly of Covel; two brothers, George Ray Lewis and his Zenaida of Chula Vista, CA and Larry David Lewis of Erwin, TN; and one sister, Norma Johnson of Lincolnton, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

"She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. It was Jeane’s wishes to be cremated...."

Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Pierpoint Freewill Baptist Church, Pierpoint with Rev. Charles “Butch” Acord officiating.
