"STEELES Roger D. Wimmer, age 65, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at his residence.
Born May 7, 1944, in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Bill and Lue Sinda Wimmer of Avondale, W.Va. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Dale Wimmer II; a brother, William Doyle Wimmer; and his father and mother-in-law, Jim and Aretta Jones."Survivors include his wife of 42 1/2 years, Augustine Wimmer of the home; a son, John Wimmer and wife, Juanita, of Kenna, W.Va.; a daughter, Lois Butcher of Sophia; two stepdaughters that he raised as his own, Kathy Stoica and husband, Mike, of Calera, Okla., and Donna Sue Buchannon of Baltimore, Md.; a brother, Albert Wimmer and wife, Mary, of Abingdon, Va.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Roberts of Avondale, W.Va., and Emma Lois Wimmer of Greenville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Kristy Barrett and husband, Dustin, of Calera, Okla., Jim and Jared Hartman of Calera, Ryan and Christina Buchannon of Baltimore, Austin Butcher of Sophia, W.Va., and Allison Wimmer of Kenna; a great-granddaughter, Kaitlin Barrett of Calera. He was also survived by nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
"Roger was a UMWA member for 42 years, Iaeger Lodge No. 148 AF and AM of Iaeger, former member of I.O.O.F. No. 228, Iaeger, Kentucky Colonel, Charter member of the Lizzard Creek Park, Charter member of Hanover Volunteer Fire Department, Charter member and founder of the former Little Huff Creek Rescue Squad, former member of the Smokey Hunting Club, member of the Friends of Hanover Public Library. He was also a Ham operator, W8TQM, ARRL volunteer examiner to give tests for Ham Radio License, and a former CB'er, known to his CB friends as "Diesel Hound." Roger was always concerned about the elderly in the community. In winter time, he would call and check on the widows to make sure they were all right.
"Service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Pads Fork Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Lester and Pastor Gary Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Emily Green Cemetery at Pads Fork, where Masonic rites will be conducted by McDowell Lodge No. 112 and Iaeger Lodge No. 148.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday night, May 30, 2009, at the church."Pallbearers will be Jim and Jared Hartman, James Bailey, Bob Steele, Mike Stoica and Austin Butcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Conner, Michael Blankenship and members of the Masonic Lodge No. 148 of Iaeger.
