Evans, 76, of (Bluewell) Bluefield, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Charleston Area Medical Center from a heart attack while working at his business in Welch, doing what he loved."Born on August 27, 1943 in Welch, he was a son of the late Paul J. and Marie Kaylor Evans. He was a longtime member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church in Princeton. He was a 1961 graduate of Gary High School and a 1965 graduate of Concord College with Master’s degrees in History, Math, and Biology. He graduated from WVU with a major in Biology and a minor in Drivers Education. He taught school at Gary High School in McDowell County and Central Junior High and Montcalm High School in Mercer County from 1964-1974, after which he took a position with Prudential Insurance Company where he received awards for faithful service, including the highest Award ever bestowed to an agent, for the number of policies being issued. He later opened his business, R&R Insurance in Welch serving the community that he dearly loved. He loved talking, storytelling and never met a stranger when it came to having a conversation.
"Survivors include his high-school sweetheart for 62 years, of which 52 they were married, Mary (Ginger) Donchatz Evans; daughter, Melissa K. (Michael) Linkous; grandchildren that were the pride and joy of his life, Andrew & Mikayla; brother in law, Joe (Catherine) Donchatz and their children, Andrew, Joanna (Colin), and Rebekah.
