"Born Nov. 2, 1927, in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Stewart and Izorah Hawks Mitchem.
"Mr. Mitchem was of the Christian faith. He attended many churches in the area. He enjoyed fishing and carpentry. Mr. Mitchem loved being around his family and friends.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert Moore.
