"Rodney was a former coalminer and a member of UMWA. In his leisure he enjoyed fishing, camping, watching westerns, telling stories of him growing up, and listening to oldies music especially his Beach Boys. He loved his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
"In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Timberlee Brooks; brother, James Harrison Brooks, Jr.; and nephew, Scott Brooks.
"Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 43 years, Anetta Gail (Coe) Brooks of Itmann; one daughter, Crystal Carte and her husband, Les of Itmann; two sons, Charles Brooks and his wife, Noel of Itmann and Timmothy Brooks and his wife, Jordon of Mullens; 10 grandchildren; three sisters, Karen Purdy and her husband, Bert of Florida, Peggy Lusk and her husband, Steve of Spanishburg, and Alicia Karam and her husband, Jim of Florida; several sister and brother-in-law’s; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

She was a homemaker, she loved going to church, being a grandmother and gardening. She loved her cats and dogs especially Tater.
