"Marcellus Stump was the second child of Alfred and Lucetta Robinson Stump. He married first Florence Roe, daughter of Granville and Sarah Ann Sharpes Roe, on 5 JUL 1880, in Roane County West Virginia, and had three children with her. he married second, Susan Stump, daughter of Bailey and Sarah Sutton Stump, on 7 FEB 1888, in Gilmer County WV, and had seven children with her. He married third, Nellie Stump Boggs, daughter of Sylvester and Mary Margaret James Stump, on 1 JUN 1922, in Calhoun County WV. (Nellie and Allen Boggs divorced before 1910.)"According to a genealogy of the Stump family written by Paul Hardman in 1940, Marcellus Stump was naturally endowed with business ability. He launched out upon the world as a trader. His judgment of the values of timber, land, live stock, and the natural resources of every form, together with human values, rendered him a force in his business transactions. Added to these traits were his indomitable will and ceaseless energy."

Baptist. Surviving are one sister-in-law, Alta Stump, of Grantsville, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Sunday, December 22, 1991, at the Bethlehem Cemetery, Grantsville
with Rev. Stanley Ash officiating.
