"Ramona Gonzalez, 78, of the Maples Nursing Home, Bluefield, West Virginia went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, June 12, 2022, after a prolonged battle with Dementia."Ramona was born in Welch, West Virginia on January 18, 1944, the daughter of immigrant parents: the late Frank Gonzalez, Sr. (Spain) and the late Antonia Renka Gonzalez White (Croatia). Ramona lived many years in McDowell County; living with her Special Aunt and caregiver Eva Perez, later living in Cleveland, Ohio with Aunt Eva until her death, then returning to McDowell County to live with her brother and sister-in-law Frank (Paco) and Dorothy (Needie) Gonzalez before finding her own form of independence with ResCare Community Living for many years until her health started failing and she moved to the Maples Nursing Home. Ramona enjoyed the activities and events provided for her during her time with ResCare. She quickly adapted and enjoyed life and fun activities at the Maples, especially going to church. Despite her handicap, Ramona truly made the best of any situation, and her sweet spirit was an inspiration to us all.
"In addition to her parents, Ramona is preceded in death by her Special Aunt, Eva Perez who cared for Ramona most of her life, her brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Dorothy (Davis) Gonzalez, and nephew, Marcus Gonzalez.
"Survivors include one niece, Maria and husband, Nick Whited of Bluefield, West Virginia; one great nephew, Zac Gonzalez and fiancé, Abby Hurst of Wytheville Virginia; and cousins: Fred Perez of Beckley, West Virginia and Frances Perez of Cleveland, Ohio with whom she was raised.
