"Jackie Dean Harman, 69, of Herndon was celebrated home on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer."Born September 21, 1946 at Covel, he was the son of the late Claude E. and Hazel (Graham) Harman.
"Jackie was a graduate of Herndon High School and obtained an Associate Electrical degree from Bluefield State College. He served in the National Guard and Army Reserves. In the 150th Armored Calvary and 304th Military Police Company. He was a member of UMWA and worked underground as an electrician for 33 years.
"Jackie was a lifelong member of the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon. Jackie was a witness for his Lord and Savior. He enjoyed going to Gospel singings with his wife and dear friends. He spent many hours gardening, working his family farm, and most of all spending time with his family.
"Those left to cherish his memory include the love of his life of 45 years, Cathy Harman; two sons, Steven Harman and his wife, Sheila of Shady Springs and Landon Harman and his wife, Terra of Herndon; one brother, Ronnie Harman of Lashmeet; one sister, Connie Byars and her husband, Rick of Herndon; three grandchildren who were his biggest fans, Lane, Tyler, and Molly Harman and four precious children in his life of Shady Springs; and a multitude of family and friends.
"Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Spruce Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Herndon with Rev. Keith Reed and Rev. Grover Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Rube Howerton Cemetery, Herndon.
"Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Tankersley Funeral Home, Mullens and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
