"Bill Hobert Honaker"PILGRIMS KNOBB, Va.-Mr. Bill Hobert Honaker, 77, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2001, in a Charlottesville hospital following a long illness. Born in McDowell, W.Va., he was the son of the late Hobert G. and Sarah Mullins Honaker. He was a U.S. World War II Army veteran, serving as a combat engineer, having worked on the Burma Road. He was pastor of Pilgrims Knob Church of God and a retired coal miner.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Stover Honaker; one son, Billy Wayne Honaker; three brothers, Sherman, Marion and Herman Honaker; and two sisters, Lorene Honaker and Hannah Hawkins.
"He is survived by his wife, Elletha Vandyke Honaker; two sons, Kenneth Honaker and Sandra and Allan Honaker and wife, Belinda, all of Pilgrims Knob; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth (Carol) Wimmer of Jewell Ridge, Va., Mrs. Steven (Helen) Keene of Pilgrims Knob and Mrs. Bobby (Barbara) Horton of Richlands; two stepdaughters, Mrs. James (Wanda) Mitchell of Oakwood, Va., and Mrs. Bonnie Clifton of Pilgrims Knob; four stepsons, Larry Stanford and wife, Donna, of Pounding Mill, Kenny Stanford and wife, Jeninfer, of Big Stone Gap, Terry Stanford and wife, Drema, of Oakwood and Tim Stanford and wife, Pam, of Pea Patch, Va.; two brothers, George Honaker of Hurley, Va., and Leslie Honaker of Tazewell; four sisters, Ellen Johnson of Pilgrims Knob. Thelma Murphy of Oakwood, Marie Mullins of Grundy and Mildred Hess of Tazewell; 12 grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
"Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, in the Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain, Va., with Rev. Rife officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery at Keen Mountain. Military graveside rites will be conducted by John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion at Grundy. Pallbearers will be: Tim Mullins, Brad Mullins, Billy Keene, Stevie Keene, Ken Honaker and Joseph Honaker. Honorary pallbearers will be: Otis Street, Charles Hubbard, Dr. Clint Merritt, Dr. Mario Stefanini, Dr. Charles Hess and Fred Rife Jr. The family will receive friends at the Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday with a service at 7 p.m. with Rev. Troy Lester and Rev. Charles Hubbard. Buchanan Funeral Service at Keen Mountain is serving the Honaker family.
