Daniel "Danny" Wayne Mitchell, 62 of Wilcoe, WV passed away peacefully Thursday, May 30, 2024. He was born December 16, 1961 in Welch, WV a son of Lewis Mitchell and Patricia Bishop Mitchell. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, friend and mentor."Danny is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Nannie Rose Bishop and paternal grandparents, Louis and Gladys Mitchell.
"He is survived by his loving family; parents, Lewis and Patricia Mitchell; sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Larry Sutphin; brothers and sisters-in-law David and Jenny Mitchell, Dennis and Mary Mitchell; aunts, Myrtle “Sue” Harris and Shelva “Sissy” Franklin; nephews and nieces, Christopher Mitchell, Nikki Caldwell and husband, David, Jessi-Lynn Mitchell, and Nick Warren.
"Danny devoted his life to serving others, working in law enforcement in McDowell County for over four decades. He started as a sheriff's deputy, then sheriff, and lastly as magistrate. He loved his law enforcement family and his community. He always tried to see the best in others and believed in second chances.
"Danny also had a soft spot for kids, consistently investing in the lives of his biological nieces and nephews as well as many kids that were not blood relatives but still just as much family. He helped coordinate the DARE program and Shop With a Cop for the youth in McDowell County. Danny leaves behind a legacy of selfless love to family and community. He will be dearly missed.
"Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday June 4, 2024 at the Mt. View High School auditorium with Pastor Tim Akers officiating. The family will receive visitors from 9:00 am until time of services at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, WV.
"In lieu of flowers please donate in Danny’s name to The Shriner’s Hospital for Children or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
