"Grover C. Goode Jr., age 94, of Beckley, West Virginia, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley."He was born June 9, 1922, at Maben, son of Grover Cleveland and Ida Lemon Goode.
"He graduated from Mullens High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in November, 1943; was stationed in Thurleigh, England, with the 368th squadron of the 306th Bomb Group (the "Reich Wreckers") of the Eighth Air Force, completing 25 missions as an engineer and top turret gunner on a B-17, dropping bombs over Germany and Occupied France from April through September 1944. He vividly described flying over the English Channel on D-Day.
"In 1950 he received his law degree from West Virginia University and practiced law in Welch from 1952 until his retirement in 1989, serving on the Board of Governors of the West Virginia Bar Association. He served many years as a Director of the McDowell County National Bank.
"Preceded in death by son Joseph Russell Goode; sisters Pauline, Helen and Doris, and brothers John and Bill.
"Survived by wife of 64 years Janet Elizabeth Keyser Goode; two daughters, Deborah Allen (Tony) of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Jana Church (Harry) of Beckley; five grandchildren: Jessica Turner Jones of Richmond, VA; Mark Allen of Knoxville, TN; Emily Turner, Daniels, WV; Kathryn Allen Southworth (Kent) of Knoxville; and Anne Allen of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

"Janet Elizabeth Keyser Goode died Monday, September 2, 2019 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia, at the age of 91. She lived a long, organized, productive life, and continued to pass on lessons in industry until the end."She was born on a farm on the banks of the Shenandoah River on May 8, 1928, the only daughter of Harry Alexander and Sina Strole Keyser. She attended Radford for two years and then transferred to VPI (now Virginia Tech). She graduated in 1951 with a B.S. in Home Economics. She remained a lifelong Hokies fan.
"She met her future husband, Grover Cleveland Goode, at a boarding house in Staunton, Virginia where she was an extension agent and he a recent law school graduate. After their marriage in 1952, they moved to Bluefield, and shortly after, to Welch, where they lived for the next 42 years, making many true and life-long friends, before retiring to Beckley. She taught home economics in Davy, and nutrition to nursing students at the McDowell County Vocational School; loved playing bridge with her bridge club; was active in scouting, and in her Church wherever she lived.
"In addition to her husband and parents, Janet was predeceased by her son Joseph Russell Goode, and her four brothers George, Julian, Harry (Bud), and Lynn Keyser. She is survived by her daughters Deborah (Tony) Allen of Knoxville, Tennessee and Jana (Harry) Church of Beckley; grandchildren Jessica Jones, Mark Allen, Emily Turner, Kathryn (Kent) Southworth, Anne Allen, and step-grandson Matt (Sheri) Church. She met her great-grandchild, Will, two days before her death. She was able to stay in her own home for her final year thanks to the loving care provided by Liley and Mary.
"Memorial services will be held at Melton Mortuary, 1200 Harper Road, Beckley on Saturday, September 7 at 4 p.m, with Reverend Ellen File officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior. Interment to follow at a later date at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Stanley, Virginia.
"In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 6457 Leaksville Road, Stanley, Virginia 22851; or to Bowers Hospice House in Beckley."
