"Joan Hood Peck, 81, was born in Oshkosh, Nebraska on December 8, 1929 to Mr. and Mrs. Lula T. Hood. Soon, the Hood family moved to Camp Creek, West Virginia where Joan received her education and completed a B.S. degree in Education at Marshall College and later, Joan attained a master's degree in Counseling. While still in West Virginia, Joan met and married Dr. Hugh I. Peck.
Over the years, Joan's family lived in several states. However, the past 31 years were spent in Starkville, MS and in Baton Rouge, LA. In Starkville, John H. Peck was an active member of the Newcomer's Club and the Starkville Garden Club. She enjoyed teaching Bridge for Newcomer's Club and as President of the Starkville Garden Club, Joan headed up the planting of the Grandmother's Garden which received national recognition. Joan and her husband, Hugh, were active members of the United Methodist Church in Starkville, MS.
Joan passed away under the gentle care of St. Claire Manor, Life Source Hospice and surrounded by her loving family in Baton Rouge on February 9, 2011. Joan was preceded in death by Dr. Hugh I. Peck, her husband of 41 years and her parents, Mr. Lula T. Hood and Ethel Cantley Hood.
Joan is survived by her brother, Charles A. Hood and his wife, Judy with their six children of Houston, TX. Joan's daughters are Sandra Charlene Peck Belena and husband Dr. John F. Belena of Houston, TX and Cynthia Ann Peck Hall and husband, Dr. William L. Hall of Baton Rouge, LA. Joan is survived by three grandchildren, Lucas D. Biggers and wife Amy of Wakeforest, N.C., Stephanie H. Geddings and husband Chris of Pittsborough, N.C., and Lydia H. Jumonville, the mother of Joan's great grandchildren, Lance and Preston Jumonville, also of Baton Rouge, LA.
All of us love and will dearly miss Joan Peck, our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, until one by one, we meet again with Jesus in heaven.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Gardens Park Cemetery in Starkville."

"Dawneda Yost"Heaven gained a beautiful angel on Thursday, September 22, 2022, when Dawneda Mullins Yost of Pace, FL passed away at HCA West Florida Hospital. Dawneda was born in Bradshaw, West Virginia on August 24, 1940, to the late E.L. and Myrtle (Asbury) Mullins, Sr.
"Dawneda grew up in Grundy, Virginia and was a proud graduate of Grundy High School. Later she moved to Bluefield, Virginia where she met the love her life, George Yost. They were married on May 3, 1969. After moving a few times with the U.S. Navy, George and Dawneda settled in Pace, Florida. Once settled for good, Dawneda went back to school and received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from Pensacola Junior College. She was a nurse for 26 years at Santa Rosa Convalescent Center. No better word describes Dawneda than giving. As evidenced by her choice in career, she was happiest when she was making others happy. From sharing her famous Rum Cake and no bake cookies to always surprising people with gifts, Dawneda truly believed in being of service to others.
"She was preceded in death by her infant sister, Shirley Rose Mullins; sister, Irene Phillips; and brothers, Gene Mullins, Joseph Mullins, and Sammy Mullins.
"She is survived by her husband, George Yost; children, Joe and Becky Smith (Pensacola), George and Candace Yost (Pensacola), Steve and Loucenda Teter (Orlando); five grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Troy (Billie) Seay, Jessica (Jeremy) Lowery, Lexi Teter and AJ Teter; great grandson, Truitt Seay; brothers, Luther Mullins (Collierville, Tennessee) and Ernest (Jean) Mullins (Statesville, North Carolina).
