"Funeral services for Mr. Sammy Austin Alley, 62, of Gaston, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, at Westside Holiness Church, with the Rev. J. E. Jeffcoat officiating. Interment will follow in Bush River Memorial Gardens."The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
"Mr. Alley died Friday, July 14, 2006, in Lexington Medical Center, following and extended illness. Born on July 22, 1943, in Horsepen, West Virginia, he was the son of the late William Howard Alley and Molly Margaret Rose Alley. Mr. Alley had been a resident of Gaston for the past 20 years and was a retired truck driver. Following his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering with a variety of projects. He will be deeply missed, but is now at peace with his loving wife, Martha Titta Alley.
"Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly Dale Mathena of Gaston, and Pamela and Chris Sawyer of Inman; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Amanda Turpin of West Columbia; three sisters, Purley Owens of Floyd, Va., Nellie Castello Wilmington, De., and Nancy Humble of Greensboro, N. C.; two brothers, Wade Alley of Martinsville, Va., and Donnie Alley of Basset, Va.; three grandchildren, Ricky Mathena, Elizabeth Sawyer, and Christopher Sawyer.
