Ulis was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and president of a UMWA Local. Ulis was also a United States Army Veteran and a Pastor of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.
"In addition to his parents, Ulis was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Mary Elizabeth Marshall Mullins; one son Ralph Mullins, daughter-in-law, Brooke Mullins, son-in-law, Roger Garrett, four sisters, Goldie Sexton, Nora Johnson, Elva Malone, and Dixie Christian; and three brothers, Andy, Jesse, and Lonnie Mullins.

"Margie Sue (Kish) Boner 88 of Gary died Wednesday July 23, 2025, at WVU Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV. Margie was born October 23, 1936, in Crumpler, WV, she was the daughter of the late Martin Kish and Margaret Berentes (Kish) Billings."She was a lifelong resident of McDowell County and spent the majority of her life in Gary, WV. She was of the Methodist faith and attended Gary United Methodist and, later, Thorpe United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching Hallmark Channel movies, reading the Welch (later Bluefield) newspaper, gardening, following general and business news on TV, and watching WVU football during the season. Her entire working career was in the employment of US Steel. During the more than 30 years she worked for U.S. Steel, the majority of her service was as the Secretary to the District Superintendent where almost everyone employed by the Company in Gary District came to know her.
"Married to the love of her life, William James “Jimmy” Boner, for over 46 years; they very much enjoyed traveling to Daytona Beach, FL and/or the Smokies every year. They also made many trips together to the Bluefield/Princeton area to shop and dine. On Sunday afternoons they would travel to Thorpe, WV to have supper with her mother, Margaret, often with other family members in attendance. Christmas was a big holiday for them as they would usually start at 7 or 8 PM Christmas Eve “making the rounds” visiting numerous family and friends and often not returning home until 2 to 4 AM Christmas Day. Christmas Day was always spent at, again, her mother’s, and usually with her Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Ed from Welch visiting. Many times, other family members would be there or stop in as well as friends of the family.
"She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy; father Martin; mother Margaret; stepfather Pryce Billings; uncles Joseph, Steven, Andy, and John Berentes; aunts Elizabeth Hazelrigg (husband Edwin) and Julia Berentes; sisters-in-law Mary Martin, Elizabeth Boner, and Mildred Snowhite; brothers-in-law Andy, Joseph, Lee, and Charlie Boner, and a special sister-in-law Peggy Boner.
