"Edward James Redmond, Jr., 94, died March 19, 2022 in the McDowell County Continuous Care Center, Gary, West Virginia."Ed was born July 10, 1927 in South Deerfield, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Edward and Genevieve Redmond.
"Ed attended Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA, graduating in June, 1946. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army from September 26, 1945 to March 6, 1947. After an honorable discharge, he attended Springfield College in Springfield, MA, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He earned a degree in physical education. Ed’s talents in baseball landed him a contract to play for the Boston Braves organization being placed in Welch, WV playing for the Welch Miners. While in Welch, he met his wife of 47 years, Louisa Mae Barley. After two seasons with the Miners, 1952 and 1953, he decided to begin his teaching and coaching career. Starting in 1953 at E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, he then moved to Perth, New York and taught and coached from 1954 to 1969. His last move was made to teach in Ithaca, NY from 1971-1988. Upon retirement, Ed and Louisa moved to Christiansburg, VA and became avid Virginia Tech fans. In 1990 he was inducted into the Perth Sports Hall of Fame.
"Ed loved to play golf and bowl, pitch horseshoes, corn hole and he loved being with his friends having great fun.
"Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa, brothers Bernard, Francis, sister Mae Turatti and a daughter, Patti Beckett, as well as sister in law, Christina Barley.
"Ed is survived by his two sons, Jim (Debbie) Redmond of Welch, WV and Eddie (Amy) Redmond of Free Union, VA. Eight grandchildren Jimmy, Amy, Bethany, Todd, Kimberly, Michael, Vincent and Kelsey. Thirteen great-grandchildren, Natalie, Addison, Kynsleigh, Bryson, Nathan, Ramsey, Presley, Lily, Rylee, Alyssa, Gavin, Cameron and Rylee, as well as son in law, Jerry Beckett. Additionally survived by brother Richard Redmond of South Deerfield, MA and sister Jane Redmond of Westfield, MA.
Ed attended The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Christiansburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 355 Independence Blvd. NW, Christiansburg, VA 24073."A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Welch, WV Thursday, March 24, 2022. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 AM -11:00 AM with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:00 AM by Celebrant, Father Binny with military honors by American Legion VFW Post 1144 of Iaeger, West Virginia.

"Rebecca "Ruth" Cline, 64 of Beaver, West Virginia, formerly of Steeles, WV died on Monday, September 13, 2021. Ruth was born on March 31, 1957 to the late Mirland and Ada Lester Richmond of Steeles. She was also preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, William "Willie" Cline; sister, Karen "Darlene" Green and niece, Amanda Cook. Those left to cherish her memory include: a son, Steven Hurley and companion, Stella Lusk; a daughter, Stephanie Gollihue and companion, Jeffrey McGuire; granddaughters: Ashlee and Brooke Gollihue and Savanah Adkins; brothers: Randel Richmond and wife, Janice, Dale Richmond and wife, Susan and Mirland Richmond, Jr. and wife, Sherry; a sister, Sharon "Marlene" Gibson and husband, James; nephews: Mark Richmond, Jaime, Cody and Dale Gibson and nieces: Melissa Dodson and Amy Cunningham. Ruth is also survived by a very special aunt, Lavey whom she cherished dearly as well as several great nieces and great nephews. Ruth was a member of the Pads Fork Freewill Baptist Church where she enjoyed hearing The Gospel and singing. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, gardening and attending to her flowers. For the last couple of years, she has made her home at The Villages of Greystone Retirement Community where she made many new friends and took pride in competing with her friends in The Olympics that they had onsite where she won several gold medals. Services will be held at the Pads Fork Freewill Baptist Church on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Friends may gather with the family at 12:00 PM Noon, one hour prior to the service. Pastors Dennis Lester and Gary Walker will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Pads Fork Community Church Cemetery. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. "Laura Elizabeth Brown, 35, of Iaeger, WV, passed away suddenly Monday, November 1, 2021. Liz was born May 12,1986 in Bluefield, WV the daughter of Allen and Angie Neal Auvil. She was a graduate of Iaeger High School and Concord University and was the band director at River View High School. Liz was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Roland and Laura Neal and her paternal grandparents, Estel and Joan Auvil.
