"Lena Matney Hicks, age 86 of Berwind WV. went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 2, 2025 at Tazewell Community Hospital, Tazewell Virginia. Mrs. Hicks was born on July 3, 1939. She was born to the late Virgil and Nodie Matney. She loved and cherished her daughters and thought she had the best looking grandchildren on earth. She loved to shop and eat out especially at KFC. But she mostly loved going to her church being the Pentecostal faith. She often said that she loved Pastor Randy Cambell Jr. like a son."In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Hicks and 4 of her
daughters, Shelby Hicks, Donna Hicks, Violet Charles, Mary Gayness, 2 son-in laws Bobby Charles and Freddy Gayness and 3 of her brothers, Cecil Matney, Raymond Matney and Jessie Matney."Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters Linda (Richard) Gayness of Randleman NC and Phyllis (Keith) West of Sophia NC. She will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters, Lawrence Matney of Newhall WV., Kenneth Matney of Coalwood WV. Hazel Curry of Bandy Virginia and Mary Ann Falgiani of War WV. Visitation at 1:00 pm with the funeral service at 2:00 pm. with the Pastor Randy Cambell Jr. and Joe Stanley officiating. Pall bearers will be friends and family. Burial will follow at the Hartwell Cemetery at Hartwell WV.
