"PATTERSON CREEK, W.Va. — The Rev. Alonzo Lincoln “Lon” Harman, 76, of Patterson Creek, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 23, 1996, at Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 12, 1920, in War, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Harrison and Myrtle Belle (Christian) Harman. He was the foster son of the late W.W. and Mary Anne (Johnson) McClaugherty. He was also preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers. Rev. Harman was a minister in Fort Ashby, Spencer, Parsons, Lumberport, Williamson and Upper Tract, retiring in 1989. He was a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he was an Aviation Chief Machinist’s Mate. He was a 1938 graduate of Beaver High School, Bluefield. In 1948 he received his local minister’s license from the Bluefield District Methodist Church. He was a 1950 graduate of Duke University, receiving a bachelor’s degree. In 1953 he was ordained as a deacon in the Methodist Church. He received his Master of Divinity in 1954 from Westminster Theological Seminary, Westminster, Md., and in 1955 was ordained as an elder in the Methodist Church. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, I.O.O.F. 39, Parsons. Surviving are his wife, Frances E. (Lechliter) Harman; one son, Daniel L. Harman and wife Diane, Sykesville, Md.; two daughters, Anna Mae Clay and husband Scott, Keyser, and Mary Frances McClaugherty and husband George, Hay Market, Va.; one foster brother, Michael McClaugherty and wife Diane, Great Falls, Va.; and six grandchildren, Kathryn A. Clay, Morgan T. Clay, Amanda K. Harman, Zachary L. Harman, Matthew W. Harman and Samantha F. McClaugherty. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Wednesday. Services will be conducted at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Turley and the Rev. Samuel Cale officiating. Frances E. Lechliter Harman, 80, of Keyser, formerly of Pattersons Creek, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Ridgeley, the daughter of the late John and Ida Mae Logsdon Lechliter.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Alonzo Lincoln "Lon" Harman, April 23, 1996. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Pattersons Creek, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are two daughters, Anna Mae Clay and husband, Scott, of Keyser and Mary Frances McClaugherty and husband, George, of Haymarket, Va.; one son, Daniel L. Harman and wife, Diane, of Sykesville; and seven grandchildren, Kathryn A. Clay, Morgan T. Clay, Amanda K. Harman, Zachary L. Harman, Matthew W. Harman, Samantha Frances McClaugherty and Shannon D. McClaugherty.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Md., today from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Pattersons Creek Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Loretta Brinker and Pastor Dwight Ramsey officiating. There will be a one-hour visitation at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery."

"Billie Joann Parsons Harless, 79, of Cyclone, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday September 28, 2014 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley, WV. She was born November 6, 1934 in Sun Dial, WV, a daughter of the late Earl and Stollie Pettrey Parsons. Joann worked in the gospel music ministry since she was six years old. She and her husband, Oral Harless, raised their children in the way of the gospel and formed the southern gospel group, The Harless Family. Joann was involved in television and radio work for many years where she touched many lives through song. Joann has written numerous songs and has sang in many churches in WV and surrounding states. She never sought credit for herself and she always put the needs of others before her own. Joann's happiness was rooted in her love of God and her family. She looked forward to holidays when the family gathered and sang around the piano. She loved to watch the grandchildren laugh and play together. She especially enjoyed listening to her children and grandchildren sing the songs of Zion. Joann had great appreciation to all the churches and pastors who invited the Harless Family to take part in their services. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years Oral M. Harless and a sister Betty Blankenship. Those left to cherish her memory are her children David and Joyce Harless of Cyclone, Danny and Sandra Harless of Bolt, Timmy and Cathy Harless of Cyclone, and Ruta and Earl Prichard, Jr. of Bolt; grandchildren Aaron and Crystal Harless of Bolt, Tara Harless Toler of Oceana, Caleb and Melissa Prichard of Bolt, Jared and Sara Harless of Oceana, Brent and Kristy Prichard of Otsego, WV, and Andrew Damron of Cyclone; great grandchildren McKenzie and Brayden Harless, Karsey, Natalee, and Mylee Prichard, Brooklynn and Jacob Toler, and Chloe and Jenna Harless; a brother James E. and June Parsons of Macedonia, OH; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
