"William was born July 17, 196 in Elkhorn, WV; and the son of the late Henry Powell and Queen Austin Powell. He was a life long resident of Elkhorn and attended Elkhorn High School. He worked for a short time in Yonkers, NY; as a construction worker. He was a member of Upland Baptist Church in Upland, WV; where he had served as a Deacon and taught Bible Class. For 37 years, he was employed by the McDowell County Board of Education as a school but operator and remained as a substitute until failing health. He was a Cleveland Browns' fan and enjoyed watching "Westerns."

"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann; and his brother, Elbert "Chicken" Powell. He leaves many treasured memories to his devoted wife of 59 years; Della Ferguson Powell and their children; Rannetta J. Powell, Brenda J. Powell and William Powell Jr. all of Elkhorn, WV; five grandchildren; Traci Powell, Karima (Glady) Woods, Rodney Powell, Rashea Powell and William E. "Mrs. Della Kate Ferguson-Powell age 86 of 113 Blue Demon Drive in Elkhorn, WV was born January 21, 1935 in Coalwood, WV. She was one of eighteen children born to the late Clint Sr., and Sallie A. (Wade) Ferguson. She was a graduate of Excelsior High School and married “the love of her life,” William Henry Powell Sr., on February 19, 1953 In Northfork, WV. She was employed for a number of years by the McDowell County Board of Education and last worked as a custodian at the (former) Northfork High School. Mrs. Powell was a member and served as Mother of the Upland Missionary Baptist Church in Upland, WV for many, many years. She enjoyed going to Church, cooking and spending quality time with her Family. She was an avid shopper and her favorite shopping centers were Roses and Wal-mart. Her most favorite pastimes were spent enjoying the scenery while traveling.

"In addition to her parents and her husband, William Sr., she was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Powell and sixteen of her siblings: Clara, William Henry, Clint Jr., Josephine, James, John, Marsha, Cesheloia, George, Benjamin, Helen, Harry, Pearl, Eleanora, Thelma, and Mary. On Thursday, November 18, 2021 at the Princeton Community Hospital in Princeton, WV the Lord called Della Kate Ferguson Powell from labor to reward.
