"On April 2, 1965, she married Francisco Valdez; he died March 19, 2003, in Marion.
She was owner of Valdez Maintenance Co., property manager with several hotels in Detroit, Mich., for General Motors Corp. She was a member of Marion Enterprise Baptist Church. She served as midwife to physicians in several states. Barbara was well known as being the matriarch of all the remaining descendants of Irvin and Rhonda (Mullins) Payne.
"Our family chain has broken once more and nothing will be the same, but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again.
"She is survived by a son, William Coy (Phyllis) Puckett of Parisburg, Va.; four daughters, Wanda J. Scott, North Judson, Ind., Sonja A. (Larry) Stone of Staunton, Va., Kimberley (Karl) Blankenship of Marion, Brenda L. Reece of Plymouth, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Danita Valdez of Marion; two sisters, Viola Headrick of Elkton, Md., Nell Byrd of Jolo, W.Va. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Bobbie Jean Reece, Connie Nell Gabriel; a stepdaughter, Dagmar Sparaga; six sisters, Little Mary Payne, Clemma Hughes, Tennessee Roberts, Laura Muncy, Bertha Elliott, Eva Kennedy; four brothers, John Keller Payne, Irvin Payne Jr., William (Bill) Riley Payne and Albert J. "BLUEFIELD, Va. Brenda Joyce Dash, 69, of Sedgewood Addition, Bluefield, VA, died peacefully Wednesday morning, October 9, 2013 in Bluefield.
Born January 16, 1944 in War, she was the daughter of the late Ulyssess C. Dash and Rachel Gore Dash.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clayton Dash of Wilmington, DE and a brother in law, Edgar "Pete" Artis.
To know Brenda was to love Brenda. She was special to all who knew her. Brenda was a lifelong member of the War Church of God.
She is survived by Ron Dash, Bluefield, VA her brother and guardian with whom she made her home, brother, John Dash and wife Louise of Newark, DE. Sisters: Liz Dash Artis of Princeton and Rose Dash Smith and husband Randall of Gainesville, GA. Sister-in-law, Carol Dash of Wilmington, DE. A very special friend, John Drew Johnson, and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Brenda's life will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 13, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Fred Farley officiating. A time of sharing and gathering will be held Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.
