"CLEAR FORK - John Howard "Johnie" Blankenship, 73, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in a Charleston hospital following a long illness.

"Born June 15, 1927, in McDowell County, he was the son of the late John H. Blankenship (1886-1963) and Dolly Bradbury-Blankenship (1891-1978).

"Mr. Blankenship was a lifelong resident of Clear Fork and was a retired coal miner from Eastern Associated Coal with 40 years of service. He was a member of Clear Fork Advent Christian Church, where he served as an elder and a trustee. He was a founding member of The Gospel Proclaimers as well as a member of the Blessed Hope Singers.

"He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Faye Matney-Blankenship; four brothers, Jerry "Jack" Blankenship, William L. "Tom Pete" Blankenship, Charles E. "Charlie" Blankenship and Roy Blankenship; four sisters, Adda Blankenship-Short, Grace Blankenship and Margaret Blankenship and Nora Blankenship-Shannon; a son, Donnie R. Blankenship; and a son-in-law, Walter E. Barlow.
