"RITES TODAY FOR WILLIAM HENRY ALLEN, 63.Pioneer Settler In This Section Was Victim of Cerebral Hemorrhage;
Had Been Ill Nearly Three YearsLast rites will be conducted this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the First Baptist Church in Welch for William Henry Allen, 63-year-old resident of Welch and a pioneer settler in this section, who died at his home on Linden Street Wednesday night of a cerebral hemorrhage. Mr. Allen's death came after an illness of nearly three years, and is the second death in that family during the past few weeks. His son Mack H. Allen, died suddenly at his home in Gary on Sunday, November 14, 1937.
"Mr. Allen was born September 28, 1874 and reared in Penhook, Va. and was the son of William Henry Allen and Frances Ferguson Allen. At the turn of the century he moved to Switchback and lived there for a year after which he came to Welch. He resided here for more than 35 years, and during this time was employed as a carpenter and contractor. He was married twice, his first wife, Sallie Wade Ferguson Allen, having died thirty years ago.
"He is survived by his widow the former Miss Sally Sue Mitchell; one son by this marriage, Calvin J. Allen, of Welch; and two sons by his first marriage, Tom and Brice Allen, carpenters employed by the United States Coal and Coke Company in Gary. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Fannie David of Gary and Mrs. Sophia Powell of Switchback. The following children preceded him to the grave; Mrs. Bertha A. Dillon in 1932; James W. Allen of Welch on June 12, 1935; and Mack H. Allen, well-known Gary resident.
"The services today will be led by Rev. D.M. Dorsey, pastor of the church after which interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.

WV, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012, in
Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton, WV,
following a short illness.
"Darrell was born November 10, 1957, in Welch, WV, a
son of the late Hobert and Alice Frances Roberts
Steele. He was of the Holiness Faith and loved to
camp, hunt, and fish.
"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by
one brother, Flay Edward Steele, and one grandson,
Brayden Terry Mullins.
"Survivors include his wife of eight years, Roberta
Perdew Steele of the home; three sons, Carter Ray
Steele of Myrtle Beach, SC, Darrell Daniel (Boone)
Steele, and Sammy Dewayne Steele both of the
home; two stepsons, Wally Edward Baker of
Sissonville, WV, and Tyler Mack Addair of Sandy
Huff; one daughter, Barbara Lynn Blackburn and
husband Calvin of Rockhouse, WV; four sisters,
Patricia Stacy and husband Raymond of Paynesville,
WV, Eileen Thomas and husband Ronnie of
Princeton, WV, Juanita Hatfield and husband Billy
Hagerman, of Iaeger, WV, and Delphine Stacy and
husband Burlof Paynesville, WV; two brothers, Ricky
Steele and wife Ginger of Harmony, NC, and Ernest
Steele and wife Josie of Bradshaw, WV; two
granddaughters, Makayla Faye Renee Blackburn, and
Haley Marie Blackburn; a special father and mother
in law, Edward and Elouise Perdew of Pipestem, WV;
special friends, Cooter and Brenda Coleman of Sandy
Huff; special nephew, Curtis Edwards and wife Sandy
of Johnnycake near Iaeger; and a special niece
Jennifer Earlene Walters of Iaeger.
"Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 25,
2012 at 11 o'clock with Reverend Lawrence Cantrell
officiating at the Mile Branch Community Church at
Mile Branch, WV. Burial will follow in the Steele
Cemetery at Sandy Huff near Iaeger, WV..."
