" Letha Marie Roop, age 93, of Peterstown, W.Va., formerly of Bluewell, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Country View Assisted Living. Born August 18, 1918 at Bud, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Austin and Elizabeth Sue Lunsford Yates. Letha had worked as a clerk at the Cox's Department Store at Bluefield, W.Va., Amar Department Store in Iaeger, W.Va. and The Jewel Box at Bluefield, W.Va. She was an avid WVU Mountaineer fan and loved to attend their games. She also loved to go to dirt track races, doing all of these things up to the age of 89. She was known for her love of owls and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Being the last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank E. Roop; one brother, Harry Yates; three sisters, Pat Nungusser, Elva Perriello and Geneva Akers; and one son, Gene Roop. Survivors include one son, Frank E. Roop Jr. and wife Donna of Nemours, W.Va.; two daughters, Brenda Blankenship and husband Paul of Cashmere, W.Va. and Joyce Peake and husband Bill of Port Orange, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Steele; brother-in-law, Tommy Perriello; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon, Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Timmy Sanderson officiating. Graveside and committal services will be 3:30 p.m. at the Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Roderfield, W.Va..."
