"Thomas "Tom" Wesley Fanning, 77, of Iaeger, West Virginia passed away on Saturday, January 30th, 2016 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley while surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born on December 8, 1938 in Iaeger, and was the youngest son of James "Pat" and Gertrude Fanning. He was preceded in death by his parents, and several brothers and sisters--Juanita, Shirley, Ranny, and Bob. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Ruby Rash Fanning, and his son and daughter-in-law, Mark Wesley & Crystal Horn Fanning. He is survived by his brother, John Pat Fanning, of Iaeger, and his sister, Judith Bailey of Antioch, California, by devoted grandchildren, Jonathan Fanning & Courtney Prater of Iaeger, and Beth Fanning Taylor & Harley Taylor of Charleston, West Virginia. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and members of the Rash family. Tom graduated from Iaeger High School, and attended the National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia, and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He worked at Fanning Funeral Home and U.S. Steel for a number of years, and retired from the McDowell County Board of Education as the Director of Maintenance. Tom loved the town of Iaeger, and spent most of his free time volunteering with many civic organizations. When he wasn't volunteering, he was an ace crossword solver, card shark, and storyteller. He was a member and trustee of the Iaeger United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Iaeger Breakfast Club, and enjoyed many meals with his special friend Oliver "Dob" Addair and a host of many other friends every morning. He was a devoted fan and follower of the Iaeger Cubs and the first Parade Marshall for the Iaeger High School Homecoming Parade. His dedication and skill as the "Eye in the Sky" filmmaker for the Cubs helped lead the team to its first undefeated football season. He started the "Little League" football organization in Iaeger. He was a former member and Fireman of the Year of the Iaeger Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 at 11:00am at Fanning Funeral Home Chapel, Iaeger, WV with Reverend Don Morgan and Reverend Randall Dority officiating. Burial will follow at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery in Roderfield, WV, were military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #1144..."

"Shirley M. Fanning Lambert, age 85, of Iaeger-Roderfield Road, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born March 2, 1928 in Vulcan, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late J.P. and Gertrude E. Neal Fanning.
Shirley was the second born of seven children: Juanita, Shirley, Ranny, Bob, John Pat, Judy and Tom. She was a graduate of Iaeger High School, Class of 1946 being very active in keeping the Class Reunions together. She was a staunch supporter of Iaeger High School. A member of the Iaeger United Methodist Church, was serving on the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of the Margaret Harmon Circle. Also, Shirley was the first and only female Mayor of Iaeger and served on the Board of Directors for Commission on Aging. She was the former owner of Shirl’s Flowers & Gifts in Iaeger.
Immediate survivors include: one daughter: Frances (Dee Dee) and husband, Howard Bivens of Iaeger-Roderfield Road; one son: Jim and wife, Terri Sly of Welch. Two granddaughters: Amy L. Bivens and husband Mark Melin of San Bruno, CA and Myra Sly of Salem, VA.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch with the Reverend Don Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Roderfield WV..."
