"Donald R. Hatfield, 73, of Gilbert, died Friday, May 13, 2011 at his residence, following an extended illness. He was born June 22, 1937, a son of the late Virgil and Ida Trent Hatfield.
"A graduate of The University of Tampa and West Virginia University, he completed post-graduate work at Marshall University and West Virginia University.
"A member of Gilbert Presbyterian Church, he was retired from Mingo County Schools, having served as a school administrator and classroom teacher. He was also involved in a number of businesses and investments.
"He was a Master Mason in the Iaeger Masonic Lodge 148 and a Noble of the Mystic Shrine in Beni Kedem Temple of Charleston, WV.
"He was a lifelong resident of Gilbert.
"He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janis Evans Hatfield of Gilbert; two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise Hatfield Boehm and Jeff Boehm of Martinsburg, WV and Robin Hatfield McCunn and Bob McCunn of New Bern, NC; three grandchildren, Samuel Austin Boehm, Madison Elizabeth Boehm and Alex Robert McCunn; three brothers, Tennis R. Hatfield, Amos J. Hatfield and James W. Hatfield of Gilbert; and several nieces and nephews.
"He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Hatfield Jeffrey.
"Friends and relatives may call from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.on Monday at Gilbert Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m.at Gilbert Presbyterian Church. Mounts Funeral Home in Gilbert is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will follow at Highlawn Memorial Gardens and Chapel in South Point, OH.
