"On Friday July 25, 2025, God called one of his most faithful servants home. Mary Jeanette Bostic Toler, 86, of Oceana, WV, left her earthly home surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Our hearts are broken, but we know that God was waiting at the gates of Heaven, smiling and beckoning one of his most precious souls to join her heavenly family. She was born on December 18, 1938 to Gladys and Frank Bostic in Kimberly, WV. Mrs. Toler, as she was known in the school setting, was a devoted teacher of 28 years at Oceana High School teaching English, Humanities, Mythology, and life’s most important lesson being kind and compassionate to others. She taught Juniors and Seniors during her high school teaching career. She diligently prepared the student for the career paths of their choice. She bid many students farewell during graduation ceremonies that were carefully planned and executed. Students in years following graduation would call, stop by to visit, or send her letters thanking her for her dedication, her instruction, her passion, and her encouragement. She was their mentor, teacher, advocate, and cheerleader that inspired then to “follow their dreams”. Oh, how she loved her family. Family was everything to her. She was the “glue” that kept us together, taught us the importance of family, and demonstrated in her everyday life that “we, her family” was the most precious gift that she had been blessed to receive. Family gatherings were her favorite times. Memories of these times will keep our hearts warm when the realization finally sets in that she is gone from this earthly home. I am sure that each of us, if we close our eyes and concentrate, can hear her voice asking about our day, always genuinely interested in everyone else’s wellbeing. Who can fill this void for us? No one. She was one special lady, one phenomenal mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, wife, sister, friend, teacher, and mentor. She was an avid animal lover. At any time, if you paid attention while driving by, you might see some foxes, possums, deer, hungry cats and dogs looking for some food, kindness, and a safe haven for just a short while. Her own animals seemed to know that these animals were just passing through and they accepted them as she did with a giving heart and no judgement. At one time, she rescued a tiny baby hummingbird that had been injured. She fed it multiple times daily with a medicine dropper until it was healthy enough to fly and survive on its own. My dad was in awe. During the following years, that little hummingbird would come to the sliding glass doors and make an appearance as if to say hello and thank you for kindness. This is who she was. She touched the lives of so many humans and animals. How does one even begin to describe the life of this amazing person??There are no words. Our last big gathering was Easter Sunday when she watched as the kids, grandkids, great grandkids, kids of extended family and friends hunt Easter eggs. Watching everyone having such a good time was her “Shot” of happiness. Time on earth seems so limited for us, her children, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. We have been blessed to have her here. We are selfish wanting her to say forever. As parents of these grandchildren and great grandchildren, their lives will be forever changed because of this lady known by her special names Granny, Mamaw, Snackin Granny, loving them for the special unique individuals that they are and will continue to be. Time ran out too quickly. We were not ready to let her go. There was always a special twinkle and wide smile when her grandchildren and great grandchildren were there or called her on the phone. Our wish is that all children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren could feel the gift of unconditional love and acceptance in his/her lifetime. We are absolutely sure that the world is a better place because Mary Jeanette Toler lived. Mom, the love that you left us with is a treasure beyond comprehension. The beautiful gift of unselfish and unconditional love will follow us in our lifetimes. Unfortunately, it is time for us to part. We will see you again. God’s words will be your wins, “Job well done thou good and faithful servant” Matthew 25: 21. We Love You! In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by Ronald Dale Toler, her husband and father of her children, Claudia Cook, Margaret “Boots” Hicks, Lillian “Bill” Webb, and Frankie Jenkins. Those left to cherish her memory include three children, David Dale (Sissy) Toler, Oceana, Regina Leigh (Craig) St. Clair, Lynco, and Nancy Toler (Mike) Lynch, Beaver, and her beloved companion of 14 years, her dog Paco, passed away three weeks ago. She has six grandchildren Bryan David (Erica) Toler, Kopperston, Andrea Shawn (Simon) Lynch-Bolen, Daniels, Meredith Michaelee (Kenny) Lynch Humphries, Cool Ridge, Julianna St. Clair, Lynco, Jason (Heather) St. Clair, Hanover, and Kristy St. Clair, Wytheville, VA. Her legacy also includes eight great grandchildren, Aria and Hudson Toler, Ryleigh Humphries, Peyton St. Clair, Hannah (Nathaniel) Ponce, Brianna St. Clair, Jacycee Wooten, and Betty Shelton, and a very special nephew Jeremiah Jenkins, her beloved pets left behind include her cats, Morris, Maggie and Big Boy, and a host of other loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 31st in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV with Rev. Ronnie Acord officiating. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley, WV. Friends may gather with the family from 10 am until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be David Toler, Sissy Toler, Bryan Toler, Craig St. Clair, Mike Lynch and Simmon Bolen. We would like to extend a special thank you to Barb Arbogast who provided care and friendship during the past year. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV."
