"James Vanover, 80, of Welch, WV, passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2011 at the Golden Harvest Nursing Home. He was born April 3, 1930 in Iaeger, WV, a son of the late Everett Vanover and Cassie Steele Vanover Wilmer. He was a retired coal miner who lived most of his life in McDowell County. Also preceding him in death, two sisters Patsy and Inez Vanover; first wife Edith Roberts Vanover; second wife Thelma Johnston Stump Vanover; a son Luther Vanover; brother Glen “Tiny” Vanover; stepson Robert Stump and stepdaughter Ginger Johnson French. Survivors include his children Imogene Jarrells and husband Roger, Buford Vanover and his companion Ruby Burks, Hilda Lively and husband David, Wilma Johnston and husband Alan, Luther’s wife Terry Vanover, Willard Vanover, Edward “Eddie” Vanover and wife Lisa, Mark Vanover and companion Jackie, Jason Vanover, Paul Gibson and wife Sonya and Wesley Johnson. Also left to cherish his memory are his sisters Betty Rose, Athalene “Sis” Addair and husband Foster; brothers Estel Vanover and wife Doris, Harold Vanover and wife Patty. James had eight children, four stepchildren, nineteen grandchildren, twenty eight great grandchildren, five step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
