"Robert Joseph “Bobby” McCall, 82, died on February 24, 2011, at Charleston General Hospital. "Born on May 24, 1928, in Wyco, W.Va., he was the son of the late Eva and Randolph McCall of Allen Junction, W.Va. "Mr. McCall had a distinguished career in the U.S. Army with many awards and citations. He retired as a Sergeant after tours of duty in Japan, Korea, Okinawa, Germany and other regions in Europe. It was during his tour in Germany that he met his beloved Louise, the wife with whom he shared his life for 55 years. "After retiring from the Army, Bobby spent a short time as a barber while completing his bachelor’s degree at Bluefield State College. He also earned his master’s degree from the College of Graduate Studies. "Mr. McCall was employed as a science teacher, having retired from Raleigh County Schools in 1988 from Bradley Elementary School in Beckley, the school he loved so much. He followed the progress of his former students with pride and related many memories of his teaching experiences to friends and family. "He also kept in touch with his “army buddies” by attending reunions of WWII and Korean national gatherings. Bobby was a member of the Grand Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites Lodge, and he was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars Association. "Bobby loved woodworking, reading, science lessons, and keeping up with his friends and family. He had a ready smile, a sharp wit and a legendary good nature. "Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Eva and Ranny McCall and a brother-in-law, Hubert McKinney. "He is also survived by his wife, Louise McCall; a brother, William “Buddy” McCall and his wife, Freda; a sister, Imogene “Sissie” McKinney; nieces, Gerlinda Hruska of Chicago, Dreama Shumate of Mullens, Robin McNeely of Beckley, and Lynn Reed of Beckley and nephews, Ronnie McCall, Bo McCall of Allen Junction and Dennis Hruska of Chicago. He also had several great and great-great nieces and nephews. "Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with WVSP Rev. Jimmy Mitchell officiating. "William Harrison “Buddy” McCall, 92, of Allen Junction, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley."Born August 27, 1926, he was the son of the late Randolph and Eva McCall.
"Buddy was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Buddy was a coalminer, uranium, and iron ore miner.
"In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Frieda; one brother, Robert “Bobby” McCall; and twin daughters, Brenda Kay and Linda Fay.
