"Born January 13, 1915, in McDowell County, W.Va., he was the son of David H. and Chloe Farley Harvey. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Harvey Holding, Eula Harvey McKinney, Sadie Harvey Fitzpatrick and Ellen Harvey Lewis; three brothers, D. Homer Harvey, W. Paul Harvey, and Robert L. Harvey; and his daughter, Phyllis Harvey Conner."He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, he went to work for Appalachian Power Company where he retired. He then spent years working for Midwest Corporation in Charleston. He lived in Daniels for 56 years before moving to Beckley in 2004."He has joined his loving wife, Odell Bailey Harvey. They were married on July 4, 1936, and were married for 64 years when she passed away on July 11, 2000. They raised two children, Phyllis Harvey Conner and Herman H. Harvey IV."He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church on South Kanawha Street in Beckley. He and his wife joined Memorial Baptist Church in July 1939. He was a very active member of the church. He become the Superintendent of Sunday School in 1941 and served for 12 years and 3 terms. He taught the Men’s Bible Class, as well as the Junior Boys Sunday School, sang in the choir, and became an ordained deacon in 1965."In 1957 he was accepted into the AF & AM Lodge #95 of Beckley, Knights Templar, Beckley Chapter #36 R.A.M. and Beni Kedem Shrine in Charleston. He also wrote poetry and is a member of International Society of Poets. He was also a charter member of the Beckley Art Club which is now known as the Beckley Art Group."Herman has a column in The Register-Herald every Sunday, titled “Hermanisms,” from his published book of quips and quotes called “Poor Herman’s Almanac.” He also has two cookbooks titled “Over Land and Sea” and “On Blueberry Hill.”"He loved to travel with his wife. They made trips to Canada, Hawaii, Rio de Janeiro, Dutch East Indies and Alaska. He also made and played many instruments. He loved to cook, garden and can and collected antiques."Left to cherish his memory are his son, Herman H. Harvey IV and his wife Judith of Beckley; sister, Sybil Wood of Princeton; three grandchildren, Gemala Conner Coursey and husband Chuck of Georgia, Rachel Harvey Loving and husband Stephen of Beckley, Janna Harvey Willis and husband Richard of Beckley, as well as two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren."Following his wishes, Herman will be cremated...."

"Johnny Mack Toler, 69, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at CMC Carolina
Medical, Concord, NC. He was born on February 14, 1947 in Cyclone, WV a son of the late Homer G. "Jud"
and Margaret McComas Toler. John was a United States Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam
era. He then worked for many years for McJunkin Corporation in both Charleston and Marietta, OH. John
retired and worked in construction so he would not be bored. He had two favorite things to do fish and
watch football. He moved to Charlotte, NC when his first grandchild was born and loved being called
papaw John by all five of his grandkids Madison Ann, Mason James, Tatum Jolee, Carly Rae and Faith
Marie. John was a 1964 graduate of Oceana High School, attended Beckley College and a member of
Lacoma Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons James P. (Missy) Toler of Charlotte, NC, John C.
(Lynette) Toler of Charleston, SC and Matthew A. (Shawnacy) Toler of Lancaster, OH; a daughter
Amanda J. Toler of Ashland, KY; a brother Homer G. (Becky) Toler of South Charleston; three sisters
Connie Long of St. Albans, Margie J. Toler of Sutton and Dolly J. Toler; a host of nieces, nephews and
family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 PM on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Lacoma
Baptist Church, Cyclone, WV with Rev. Jerry Cook officiating. He will be laid to rest in Toler Cemetery,
