"LOGAN — Garland Joseph Swim, 76, of 186 Nighbert Avenue in Logan, died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Logan Regional Medical Foundation in Logan. Born February 16, 1934 in Princeton, he was the son of the late Tony Swim and Lurinda Elmore Swim. He was a 1951 graduate of Princeton High School and attended Bluefield Business College. Garland retired in April of 2009 as the owner and operator of Swim Electric Company in Logan. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Garland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Logan. He was also a member and Master Mason of the Aracoma Masonic Lodge #99 in Logan and a 32nd Degree Mason. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Richard Swim and Harold Swim; and one sister, Shirley Bond preceded him in death. "Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Billie Jo Luke Swim of Logan; two daughters, Kathie Cheek and husband Michael of Logan and Vickie Watson and husband Kevin of Ft. Mill, S.C.; two grandsons, Adam Cheek of Huntington, W.Va. and Kevin Watson, II of Ft. Mill, S.C.; one sister, Lorena Walker of Princeton; and numerous nieces and nephews. "Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 10, 2010 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton .."
