She enjoyed crocheting, crafts and writing poetry. She also liked to hunt and fish. "Katy was reunited with her husband of 49 years, P.H. “Johnny” Lester, who made his journey home in 2000. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by one grandson, David Lee Dominick, II; and two brothers, Edward R. Cook and Robert James Cook. Her second husband was Joseph Waytovich. They had two children, both of whom are still living (as of 2008). Joseph died in a mining accident. Then she married Melvin Cook, who died of a heart attack in 1975. They had nine children, only two of whom are still living. Next, she married Tom Atha, who died of "old age".
