"James Bruce Cook, known as JB to his family and friends, passed away at the home of his youngest daughter and son in law on September 11, 2025, at the age of 84. JB was born in Pierpoint, West Virginia, on March 7, 1941, to the late Tennis Fred and Gladys Jackson Cook. JB, who never met a stranger, will be remembered for his bigger than life personality, his archives, and his endless stash of Little Debbie snack cakes. He and his wife enjoyed sharing in the many accomplishments and milestones of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Through the years he was often described as a workaholic, but in his spare time loved woodworking in his shop and watching sports. You might find him in front of the television watching any kind of sport but he especially loved UNC Tarheel basketball, the LA Lakers, and NASCAR. JB was a 1959 graduate of Baileysville High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He began working as a body shop repairman for Pine Chevrolet in Pineville, West Virginia in 1972. JB took his talents and, along with his business partner Tim McGraw, opened J & T Body Shop in Pineville, West Virginia, in 1980. They ran a very successful business until they both retired in 2005. JB married his beloved wife, Phyllis Ann Short Cook, on February 14, 1980. Together they built a beautiful life and family until her death earlier this year on May 3, 2025. In addition to his parents and wife, JB is preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Brining, two brothers and their wives Ted (Pat) Cook and Kenneth Edward (Rhonda) Cook, and two nephews, Tennis Kenner Dancy and Robert David Breeding. JB is survived by his daughters Sherri Lynn (Tommy) Bland and Carla Cook (Reece) Carter step daughters Angie (Dave) Morrison and Christy (Billy) Fox grandchildren Trey Hunt, Thomas Bland, Megan (Michael) Asbury, Michael (Lindsay) Bland, Will (Carissa) Fox, Hailee (Nathan) Taylor and Phillip Fox (Kylie Lester) great grandchildren Cullen Kirkendoll, Damian Reed, and two great grandchildren on the way, Baby Girl Fox in March and Baby Bland in April sisters Billie Sue (Bob) Breeding and Vicki (Larry) Dancy brother Jody (Kim) Cook brother-in-law Paul Brining along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews and his Short family from Elk Lick. In keeping with JB’s wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of his life will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Casteel Event Center, 129 Main Street, Pineville, West Virginia. His family will spread his ashes around his Elk Lick home where his wife’s ashes were spread. The family is being served by the Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV."
