"I am seeking any information concerning a Martha "Mattie" Melvin (bc 1874, Mercer Co., WV; d Oct, 1923, Mercer Co., WV), who was married in Mercer Co., WV in October, 1899 to Andrew Jackson “Jack” Reed (b June, 1868; Monroe Co., WV; dc 1907-09~ possibly McDowell, Summers or WYOMING Co.,WV). This was Jack's second marriage, as his first wife (Alice Woods ; bc 1871, Summers Co., WV; d Oct, 1898), who bore him four children (Johnny, Jimmy, Nellie and Betty), apparently died due to complications of childbirth in 1898. As for Mattie's marriage to Jack, she apparently had at least two children by him : Andrew (aka “Earl”?; born May, 1905, McDowell Co., WV; d 1954, near Austin, TX), and Della Ray Reed (b June 4, 1908 or 1909, WYOMING Co., WV; d Feb 20, 1917, Springton, Mercer Co., WV)."As a side note, Mattie was apparently the daughter of Napolean Bonaparte Melvin (bc 1852; Mercer Co., WV) and Annie Carr (b July 25, 1857, Oakvale, WV; d Jan 2, 1934, Matoaka, Mercer Co.,WV), and among her siblings were brothers Samuel “Doss” Melvin (c 1885- 1968) and “Poley” Melvin (1890 – 1967) – both of Mercer Co., WV, as well..."
