"Chester William Fitzwater, 85 of Beckley, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 6, 2009."Born August 11, 1924, at Herndon, he was the son of the late George Walter and Dora Velma McKinney Fitzwater.
"Mr. Fitzwater enjoyed model trains, photography and camping in younger years. He was a retired Coal Miner. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II serving as a Seaman aboard the USS West Virginia. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Grace Chapel, Dry Hill Road, Beckley and was the song leader at his church.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Fitzwater, and Joseph Fitzwater; and two sisters, Frances Spradling, and Vannie Harris.
"Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Dorothy Monzella Huffman Fitzwater of Beckley; two sons, Victor Fitzwater and wife Susan and Michael Fitzwater all of Beckley; three grandsons, Billy Scott and wife April of Denver, N.C.; Zachariah Fitzwater of Honolulu, HI, and Shawn Fitzwater and wife Star of Burnt Chimney, Va.; one granddaughter, Sybil Franklin and husband James of Beckley; and seven great-grandchildren, Michael, Caleb, and Olivia Franklin of Beckley, Daniel and Ezekiel Scott of Denver, NC, and Britney and Michael Shawn Fitzwater of Burnt Chimney, Va.
"Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley with Pastor Kenny Woolwine officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Mercer County Veterans Council and WV Honor Guard.
