"OCEANA-Robert Chester Paynter 60, departed this life Saturday, August 15, 2009, surrounded by his loving family following a short illness.

"Born Sept. 23, 1948, in Davin he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Gaye Paynter.

"Robert was a 1967 graduate of Oceana High School, served his country in the United States Air Force with the rank of staff Sergeant, member of Disabled Veterans of American, owner and operator of Paynter Insurance Agency, Rotarty Club Member, and a retired USPS postmaster.

"He was a life long member of the Church of God where he served as Christian Education Director, church clerk, treasure, adult Sunday school teacher, superintendent, and singer.

"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Brown.

"Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Judy Price Paynter of Oceana; two sons, Chris Paynter and Todd Paynter both of Washington , D.C.; two brothers, Charles Paynter and wife, Wendy of Cyclone and Joseph Paynter and wife, Dorothy of Pineville; three sisters, Kathleen Walker and husband, Rev. James Walker, Joyce Cook and husband, Rev. Phillip Cook of Cleveland, TN., and Carol Cook of Cyclone; brother-in-law, Johnny Price and wife, Sharon of Beckley; six nieces; seven nephews; nine grand-nieces and twelve grand-newphews; and a host of family and friends.

"A celebration of Robert's life will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at Oceana Church of God with Rev. Randy Bowles, Rev. James Walker, Rev. Phillip Cook and Rev. James Lafferty officiating. Robert will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, with full military honors by the Wyoming County Honor Guards..."
