"GLEN FORK-Gene "Roger" Brown, 67, departed this life Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a short illness."Born October 21, 1941, in Glen Fork he was the son of the late Ova Estil and Ilene Cook Brown.
"Roger has served his country in the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam, and was a retired coal miner having worked for Harris Number One Mines for 18 years.
"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lemon Brown, Buford Brown and an infant brother, Ronald K. Brown; and a brother-in-law, Buford Stewart.
"Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sue Ann Shrewsbury and her husband, Mike of Bud; a sister, Linda Stewart of South Carolina; a brother, Billy Ray Brown and his wife, Diane of Jesse; one uncle, Joe Cook and his wife, Mary of Princeton; two sister-in-laws, Carol Brown of Glen Fork and Ruth Brown of Oceana; two grandchildren, Courtney Raye his "little woman" and Zachary Raye his "little man" and "little buddy." and a step-grandson, Jonathan Shrewsbury; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
"A celebration of Roger's life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009, at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jonathon Cresong and Rev. Lacy Brooks. Roger will be laid to rest in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny with full military honors by Wyoming County Honor Guards..."
