"Dennis Brown, 71, of Fairdale, formerly of Cyclone, went home to be with the Lord and his wife, Doris, on Wednesday, April, 23, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his family following a long illness. "Born Feb. 17, 1937, at Cyclone, he was the son of the late James H. Brown and Blanche Toler Brown. "Dennis was a former member of Cyclone Missionary Baptist Church and Lacoma Baptist Church where he served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher and trustee. He currently was a member of Breckenridge Baptist Church in Fairdale. "Dennis was a member of the Local Union 7604. He loved to play the guitar, do woodworking and listen to bluegrass music. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with his family. "Dennis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris Brown; three brothers, James K. Brown, Dewey Brown and Cletis Cook; two sisters, Katherine Paugh and Evelyn Brown; and a grandson, Zachary Bailey. "Those left to cherish his memory are three daughters, Melissa Blake and her husband, Jimmy, of Summersville, Marsha Johnson and her husband, Johnny, of Heaters and Kristi Cook and her husband, Chuck, of Fairdale; two sisters, India Paugh and her husband, Eugene, of Pineville and Lois Acord and her husband, Jack, of Cyclone; five grandchildren, Kelli Meadows and her husband, Matthew, of Summersville, Chad Johnson and his wife, Cindy, of Flatwoods, Matthew Bailey of Heaters, Chloe Cook and Will Cook of Fairdale; a great-grandson, Chandler Meadows of Summersville; five sisters-in-law, Linda Cook and her husband, Robert, of Cyclone, Betty Harris and her husband, John, of Martinsville and Pat Paynter, Jackie Cook and Versie Brown, all of Cylone; special caregivers, Francis Criss and Pamela Holmes; his special dog, Pepper; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. "FAIRDALE-Doris Brown, formerly of Cyclone departed this life and entered Heaven's gates with her family by her side on Sunday, April 15, 2007, at the age of 68 years 2 months and 22 days, at her residence following a long illness.

"Born January 24, 1939 at Davin, she was the daughter of the late Lacy and Viola "Vine" Lusk Paynter.

"Mrs. Brown was a 1957 graduate of Oceana High School, a homemaker, a former member of Campus Church of God; a member of Breckenridge Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending time shopping, dining with her family and vacationing.

"In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jackie Paynter, David Paynter and Roger Paynter; a grandson, Zachary Bailey; and a son-in-law, Sammy Bailey.

"Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Dennis Brown of Fairdale; three daughters, Melissa Blake and her husband, Jimmy of Summersville, Marsha Johnson and her husband, Johnny of Heaters, WV and Kristi Cook and her husband, Chuck of Fairdale; two sisters, Betty Harris and her husband, John of Martinsville, V.A., and Linda Cook and her husband, Robert of Cyclone; five grandchildren, Kelli Woolum of Coal City, Chad Johnson and his wife, Cindy of Flatwoods, Matthew Bailey of Heaters, Chloe Cook and Will Cook both of Fairdale; sister-in-law, Pat Paynter of Cyclone; an aunt, Audrey Perry of Cyclone; two special caregivers, India Paugh and Robin Acord; several nieces and nehews and a host of friends.

"A celebration of Doris' life will be 7 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2007 at the Adam Toler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dewey Lowe officiating.

"Graveside service will be noon, Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at the Paynter Cemetery in Campus. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet the family at the cemetery..."

"In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lemon Brown, Buford Brown and an infant brother, Ronald K. Brown; and a brother-in-law, Buford Stewart.

"Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sue Ann Shrewsbury and her husband, Mike of Bud; a sister, Linda Stewart of South Carolina; a brother, Billy Ray Brown and his wife, Diane of Jesse; one uncle, Joe Cook and his wife, Mary of Princeton; two sister-in-laws, Carol Brown of Glen Fork and Ruth Brown of Oceana; two grandchildren, Courtney Raye his "little woman" and Zachary Raye his "little man" and "little buddy." and a step-grandson, Jonathan Shrewsbury; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.
