"Gregory (Butch) Davis, 68, of Coal Mountain, WV closed his eyes on Earth and opened them in Heaven on October 19th, 2021."Butch Davis was born on June 20th 1953, in Welch, West Virginia, to the late Corrine and Jeep Davis.
"He was a retired coal miner/carpenter and an active member of Coal Mountain Community Church. Butch never met a stranger and would give up all he had for those he loved. He was his family's protector, leader, and refuge. He was larger than life and has impacted all who have met him.
"Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Rita Davis. Two children, Krista (Fred) Warrix of Coal Mountain and Greg Davis of Monroe, NC. Five grandchildren, Haven and Abram Davis of Salisbury, NC, Brooke, Braylee, and Bryce Warrix of Coal Mountain. Four sisters, Jeanie (Mike) Rhodes of Brenton, Peggy Davis of Alabama, Donna Mae (Butch) Puett of Coal Mountain, and Anita (Gene) Mullins of Beckley. Butch will also be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

"In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Butch Davis, and her brother Billy Hatfield.
"Butch and Rita only spent 19 days apart proceeding Butch's death and are now together rejoicing in Heaven. Rita was a gifted teacher of 35 years, helping shape the hearts and minds of those under her care. She was a faithful follower of Christ, and an exceptional wife, mother, and grandmother.
"Those left to love and cherish the memory of Rita are: two children, Krista (Fred) Warrix of Coal Mountain and Greg Davis of NC. Five grandchildren, Haven and Abram Davis of NC, Brooke, Braylee, and Bryce of Coal Mountain. A special friend, Julie Hatfield, and countless friends and other family members.

"Mrs. J.T. Goodson, age 76, of Davy, died at the home of her son, W.K. Goodson, Monday afternoon at 12 o'clock. Death was attributed to complications following a lenghty illness.
"Mrs. Goodson was from an old pioneer family and was well known in this section. She was a native of Floyd, Va, coming to this section many years ago.
"She was an active church worker and a member of the Davy Methodist church, south.
"She is survived by four children, namely, Archie and Ernest Goodson of Hellier, Ky, Mrs. Ella Kirby, of
Coalwood, and Willey K. Goodson, of Davy, and one step daughter, Mrs. Nora Mitchell, of Pageton. She is also survived by 37 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. She was preceded to the grave by seven children and her husband.

"James Tazewell Goodson"J.T. Goodson, pioneer merchant of Davy, died suddenly of heart failure, at his home, Saturday, July 21, [1928] at 12:30 o'clock, at the age of 76 years.
"Mr. Goodson was born in Floyd County, Va., in 1852, and on August 10, 1879, was married to Mary L. [Creasy] Johnson, of Montgomery County, Va. To this union thirteen children were born, six of whom preceded him to the grave.
"He moved to Davy and engaged in the mercantile business with his son-in-law, I.H. McNeal,in 1904 the firm being known as McNeal & Goodson. He later purchased the interest of Mr. McNeal, and with his son, Wanless, continued in the business under the firm of J.T. Goodson & Son.
"During his residence in Davy Mr. Goodson acquired considerable property, and became one of the community's leading and substantial business men.
"He is survived by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Amelia Goodson, of Roanoke, Va., and the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Charles Kirby, Coalwood; John Goodson; Mrs. I.H. McNeal, of Wilksboro, N.C.; Mrs. Roy Mitchell, Pageton; Arch Goodson and Ernest Goodson, Hellier, Ky.; Mrs. Light Shields, Davy, and Wesley Goodson, Davy.
"In addition, there are 35 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren surviving.
"The following children preced[e] him to the grave: Morris, Wanless, Matthew, Jeoffrey and John Goodson.
"Funeral This Afternoon
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church, at Davy, this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, and will be in charge of the Rev. C.C. Bailey and the Rev. R.N. Woodward."Interment will take place in the cemetery at Twin Branch. As a mark of respect to the deceased, all stores and business houses in Davy will be closed from 2 until 3:30 o'clock, for the funeral services. The body was prepared for burial by Hunter Brothers, of Davy...."
