He had worked a short time for Black Eagle Coal as a boss, and had moved to Pineville, where he owned and operated a gas station, and later worked as a barber in Tazewell, Va. "He was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Lafferty Jr.; and two brothers, Gus Lafferty and Ralph Lafferty; and his maternal grandparents, Nathan and Eliza Rose.
