(April 25, 1925 - October 14, 2011)"David William “Junior” Matney, Jr., age 86 of Welch, WV died Friday, October 14, 2011 at Golden Harvest-Welch Community Hospital in Welch, WV. Born April 25, 1925 at Excelsior, WV he was a son of the late David William Matney, Sr. and Bertha Addair Matney. He was of the Christian faith and enjoyed singing in church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Maudie Click, Mary Rose, and Audrey Deskins; two brothers, Ermine Matney and Henry Matney; two nieces, Edna Sweeney and Sue Blevins; five nephews, David Rose, Larry Rose, Earl Rose, Johnny Blevins, and Wayne Matney. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
"He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
"Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Jesus Church of Bartley in Barley, WV with the Reverend Roger Hale and the Reverend Roger Pete Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Shortridge Cemetery near Atwell Mountain in McDowell County. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
